CRIMINAL STATISTICS—For the half year
ending ,Tune 30, there were sixteen orimi-
nal cases before the county officials. name-
Iy : 2 charges of arson, 3 burglary, 4 lar-
ceny and 7 aggravated assaults ; of these,
7 were tried by the County 'Judge, and 9
appealed to twelve men, good and true.The
crown attorney proaeouted in all these oases
and secured 15 convictions, one charge
having been withdrawn by the consent of
the parties concerned.
LARGE Ottjsns—Mr 0 M Walker of the
new Furniture Upholstering Factory, who
left hero on a business trip through to the
Coast, recently, has been meeting with
great success. On Tuesday of this week
an order for 63,000 worth of their goods
was received, besides large orders for the
Union Furniture Co., Messrs. T. Bell &
Son and Button & Peasant. Mr. Walker
understands his business well and is bound
to make things boons in the furniture line.

A GOOD CITIZEN—The Clinton New -Era
refers thus to a well-known citizen of our
town : John Neelands, of Wingham, was
this week en route to Brantford, where he
was called tin connection' with Fnresters'
business. Mr.Neelands is so often called
to Brantford that he has about decided to
take up his residence there, much es he
dislikes to remove from the county of Hur-
on. He resided at Londesboro for oyer 12
years std has since been 25 years in Wing -
ham, so that he figures as one of the old
residents of the county, and at the same
tine one of the most highly esteemed, and
will carry away the friendship and good
will of a large circle of friends.,,;

The horse races given by the Wingham
Driving Park Association on Wednesday
and Thursday of this weak drew a large
numner of people to town from various
places. The attendance on the first day
was very good and some fine horse racing
was seen. The first race, the 2.35 pace
or 2.30 trot was won in three heats by
Zelda, owned by J. Adams, of Kincar-
dine and driven by Walter Burnside, of
Kincardine. This horse has been in
training on the Wingham track for some
time, and were pleased to see Walter
win the race. The other two races were
also fine exihitione. Tommy 11, the
guideless pacer, owned by Mr. W
Daherty, of Clinton, gave an exhibition,

spectators. Mr. W. Bishop, of Kincar-
dine acted as starter for the first day.
