It was a big birthday party at

Manse on Wednesday when well

attended, the .Open-House 100th
Anniversary celebratioaer-
The half acre piece of property
on which the Manse is situated
was purchased on February 12,
1878 and the ,contract for. the
building of the then "Methodist
Church Parsonage" was let for
• the $4171 of two thousand dollars,
on March 28, 187$. The Manse
was built in the summer5'lf 1878,
The Manse hasibeen the borne of
the Methodist and then the
United Church ministers since its
is constructed of solid brick and it',
was noted that when the house
was hired for hydro it was found
that all partitions in the home are
also constructed of solid brick and
therefore all the switches for light
had to be installed on one wall in
the hallway which was the only
wall not of 'brick..The large open
hall way and entrance with the
winding staircase is characteristic
fo the 18/0's, as are the once five
large bedrooms on the second
floor. While installing a modern
bathroom a three hundred gallon
water tank was found suspended
down from the attic. constructed
of heavy steel with a case of two
-inch-thick-planks around if.---Tfits'
was once fed by the windmill on
the lot, piror to the power being
installed, and gave running water
to the residence of the home. The
only major change made in the
house were two open verandahs
taken off the house, one on the
front of the house and the other
