A. VERY SAD DEAT -. Word was received
at Listowel on Wedt esday last of the death
of Mr. Adam Trema n of Detroit, who died
in that city very su denly, Deceased was
in the 22nd year of is age and was only
ill two days from b ain feyer. He was a"
cousin of Mr. H. B. elliott of the Tastes,
who attended the fu eral at Listowel on
Friday last.

rioulture has sent out circulars regarding
the appearance of a =w pest, known as
the gall louse, which affects spruce. The
insect attacks the lea and enters the im-
mature bud, and the •nly really effective
remedy is to clip off 1io,,yalls, which form
during June and Ji y. After the pro-
ducers have passed o • t of the galls there is
no course available . t to cut dew° the in•
fected tree. The de; artment requests that
whoever finds the ells on their trees,
should communicatthe foot and all the

The first part of he programme will con-
sist of a cantata "The Jolly Pionie Party,"
by a class of c ildren. The second part
will be a short d ama, "Quizotie Quakers,"
by a class of ado ts. Both these pieces are
being practiced the performers and are

VERs PECULIAR . ccIDENT—The following
from the Woodsy ek Sentinel -Review, of
Saturday. refers o a son of Mr. W. O.
Stuart, of town, at d who was well-known
by many of our rea' ors :—"George Stuart,

and employed at th Anderson works, was
the victim of a ve , painful accident on

employee of the fact ry. They had been

About nine o'clock the were on the return

the corner of Hunter : t. they met a horse
and rig drtven by a fa mer, presumably on
his way home. Just ow it happened the
boys don't know. Me lay turned out all
right, but it is thought that Stuart turned

Stuart was literally i paled. on the shaft.

where it was found 1 had sustained a

inches, tearing the lies The injured man
was subsequently rem .ved to the hospital,
where he received cares ul attention. Some
of the nurses were in he opera house at
the time the accident occurred, and were

seem to have been fe if any, spectators
of the accident. The rune of the driver of
the rig could not be le rned. He neglected
to leave it when he eparted. rather hur-
riedly, and it is a ma ter of speculation as
to whether or not the blame rests with the

good night, and reste• nicely this morning.
An examination of th wound this morning
showed that the shaft had gone about half

and under the femoral artery. The doctors
