The HOron County Board of
Education decided at its, last
meeting to join the Ontario Vho..ol
Trustees Council but want the
cctuncirfo knew that the bo:ard is
not happy wjthrits' membership.
The board, in a recorded vote,
accepted a motion from Colborne
Trustee - Shirley' Hazlitt that
Huron County join alb, council.
Mrs. Hazlitt also asked in her
Motion that the board send a
letter to the council expressing its
dissatisfaction.
The subject of enrolment in the
council was raised at the board's
January meeting when the
question of _yaltie of the
investment was raised. Goderich
Trustee ,Cayley Hill asked the
board if anyone knew if Huron
County was receiving benefits
from the council• worthy of its
4,000 membership fee.
Mr, Hill felt the board ntay not
be getting $4,000 worth of
benefits and when no trustee
could offer any detail on the worth
of belonging to the 01.11161 the
Goderich trustee asked that the
matter be investigated further.
Tht benefits of the
memWrship were discussed in

January 1978 will long be
remembered as a month of record
storms,. To me it has been rather
exasperating.
I have been .looking forward all
month, to a weekend celebration
of another milestone along life's
way. AS Doug and Marilyn Hillis
are both teachers, the celebration
had to be planned for a weekend.
At least four weekends,
Marilyn called and said they
couldn't make it.' It is 'really
surprising what grief there has
been in the Ingersoll, Tillsonburg
area which I always thought of as
the 'banana' belt.
When in Muskoka, I was .
amused at the natives. When they,
heard I came from Huron County,
they would reply "0 you come
from the 'snow belt!'.
I had never heard it called that
before so I would feebly take
exception to their opinion. In the
last few winters here I am forced
to admit they knew what they
Were talking about.
It all seems to h ave started New
Year's Day and it has, been almost
continuous since then. True,
there have been some sunny days
to lift . our spirits but a few
innocent snowflakes seemed to'be
a warning of more to conic
especially' on the .weekend.
In talking to Marilyn, Sunday, I
said "I'll have to change my
birthdate." That would mean I
would have to change my-thinking
also. I've decided to cope with
what I have. .
In my' many years, this
difficulty has happened before.
On one occasion Jean •told me
she had made a special birthday
cake to bring and owing to storms
couldn't make it. She had four
birthday cakes. on hand to bring.
By . doing some ' quick enter-
taining, she was able to dispose of
them 'to advantage. Even that
didn't discourage her. She made
another when the weather settled
so allworked out well.
I had a very happy birthday
1978 and enjoyed a luscious cake,
complete with candles.
As is traditional the Staff
brought it to me singing "Happy'
Birthday". I blew all the candles
out with one try so I should get
my wish. My family will be here
the first good weekend weather-
wisp.
The mail man was very
generous on the' very day
bringing me many .cards and
letters with good wisnes. Thanks
to all those who remembered.
On such an occasion, there is
usually one brave soul who asks,
'How old are you?" I usually
assure them to a degree, so
answer "I' was born in this
century" which usually satisfies
them partially.

away one year ago to-day, Feb. 4,
1977.
In our hearts your memory lingers
Sweetly tender, fond and true,
There is not a day, dear mother,
That we do not think of - you.
God saw that you might suffer,
So He did what He thought bostr-
'He came and stood beside you,
And whispered -Come and Rest"
You bade no one a last farewell,
Ne"r even said goodbye,
You were gone before we knew it,
And only God knows why.
