Following a delicious Pot Luck
Luncheon served by the ladies of
the Congregation, the members
of Brucefield United Church
gathered for the Annual Meeting.
The Rev. E. S. STephens
opened the meeting with prayer.,
and 'Ross Sott voiced. the appreci:
ation, of all for the plentiful'
repast. The fact that the men had
not been called upon to- wash
dishes was mentioned and the
fact that there were no disTi _pan
hands amongst the men was duly
appreciated. ,
Man Hill was elected secretary
for the year. The Report from the
Treasurer of the Official Board
was received for information.
Reports from the various parts
of the congregation were
presented. The Committee of
Stewards, reported that $2,346.00
was spent during the year. The
new 'front . doors made possible
through the givings and a gift
from the U.C.W. have greatly
enhanced the appearance. The
givings to the Mission and
Service Funds amounted to
$3,257.00, .... . ' ..... .
Reports from the Cradle'l'Roll,
the Board of Trustees. the
U.C.W., the Sunday School, the
Young Peoples', The Explorers
all pointed to. a most successful
year in the congregation.
Robert Allan and Mr.' Aldie
Mustard were elected to the
Session for a period of-five years.
Gerald - Rathwell, Alex
Townsend and. Seidon Ross were
elected to the Committee of
Stewards for a period of three
years.
The Clerk of Session, Elgin
Thompson reviewed the work of
the Congregation and concluded
his report with - an expression- of
thanks to the Minister and his
wife, Rev. and Mrs. E, - S.
Stephens, the Choir and Organist
-Director, Mrs. Barbara
Livermore, the Coinmittee of
Stewards, the ladies of the
U.C.W. and teachers in the
Sunday School. He also expressed
thanks to those who have given
leadership in the past year in
their various capacities.
J. K. Cornish .has been for
many, years the' Auditor and at
-this meeting he asked to be
relieved of the post. An
expression of appreciation -was
voiced and the meeting showed
their appreciation with a round of
applause.
Mrs. Ann Walters was elected
Observer Representative and,
David Townsend was elected
'treasurer of the Vacation Bible
School.
Rev. E. Stephens
pronounced the Benediction at
the close of the meeting.

Mrs. Leonard Strong of Egm,
ondville was the guest speaker at
the February meeting of Varna
U.C.W. on Thursday. evening.
She began with a poem. "The
Month of. Valentines". She
assured members that, while it is
'helpful at the Presbyterial level

up, members are free to adjust
them to suit local needs. •
She feels that, at Conference
level, there is some lack of
understanding of the needs of
small and rural congregations.
