A recently issued volulme "The Age of InnOcence"' in the
Canada Illustrated Heritage series depicts Canada as it was
during, the decade 1870-1880. One of the illustrations, used to
indicate activity of the day is of an auction sale poster printed by
The Huron Expositor on October 8. 1872. The poster announced
an auction -sale of farm stock , implements and honsehold
furniture to be conducted by auctioneer Archibald Bishop for
owner James Butt at lot 14, con. 2, Usbortie . The sale poster sets
out the terms of sate which are "all sums-,of 55 and uncier Cash,
over that amount 12 months credit will be given upon furniShing
approved joint notes, with, interest from date, if not paid when
due." In October, the fq1lowing year. in a bye-election, Mr.
Bishop• was elected to represent the riding. of South Herron.., a
position he held in five subsequent elections until his retirement
in 1894.
Mrs. May Habkirk, Mrs. Elva Ellis and Mrs. Irene Smith
have returned from a pleasant trip to Honolulu in' Hawaii.
