If the snow didn't get us, the
Water will. Having come through
one of the worst winters on record
(we hope) and suffering or
' enjoying (depending. On •your
point of view) being snowed in a
' couple, of times each month, it
now appears that we have -to put
up with floods and washouts.
"Is your basement flooded?",
"HoW many times did your sump
pump break doWn?" and "What

topics of conversation around
here.
My base ment's flooded, the-
overworked sump -pump breaks
down at regular 24 hour intervals
and from my back deck the run off
' water flowing from a high field to
ilOwer one sounds like Niagara
Falls. And I've been coming to
town the long way,- via St.
Columban; since Sunday because
Motet want to take a chance with
the rather large 'Puddles that
extend acroks the road, the other
way.
But the water's _ okay.
Co paced. to More snow, I
welcome it. After all it's drying
up,' sinking, being carried away.
As a matter of fact from the
view outside my bathroom
window it looks as if the farmers
will be on the land in no time.
Even if they will have to, have
plows 'on their tractors to get
them through the snoWbankStliat
that Still like their fast drying
fields. '
And, the sunny days that are
drying the fields are music to my
soul after the long ,dark winter. If
I diditt,fiaye to be' inside'all day,
five days a week, my life would be
pretty close to perfect this March.
But, Itinan nature being what
'it is, would I_ be out marvelling in
Spring and enjoying the sun, if I
didn't have to be at work? No, I'd
'probably be in the ''.-rdartip—
basement, worrying about the
blankety blank sump pump.

I went back to the garage with

some tires, after his escape from
the car engine.
