The SeafarlE team 'proved tofr. powerful for the Durham group as Seaforth came out on top with an 8-2 win. David McLIwian led the scoring with five goals and Captain Jerry' Wright netted three goals. On, Sunday, -the local Atoms travelled to Durham for the final game and' won the vypAAAtom "CC" ChaMpionship with a final score 5-3: Seaforth ' built up a commanding 5-0 lead before Durham could get on . the • ,sc.oreboar& Durham fought, back hard but wereunable to overcome the determined 'Seaforth team. • Scoring for Seaforth were DaVid McElwain with four goals and Jerry Wright with one. For Durham, Terry Whiteside socred two goals and Bob Chapman got , one. It is significant to note that the following places competed in the Atom, WOAA this season-Southarntiton, Wiarton, Durham, Palmerston, Arthur, Harriston, Wingham, Clinton, Mitchell and. Wingham tournament biggest yet One of the largest midget hockey tournaments in Ontario will be held at Wingham during the school 'Winter Break'. The 14th annual 'Wingham Midget 'Hockey Tournament will be increased from 32 teams to 56 this year. All the defending Champions in the "AAA'', "A",, :,'B'.' and "C" iategories will be back looking for their „second straight title. They will get some • good opposition from the other teams. in each groUP. The "AAA" category had the least number of teams entered but the eight teams so far are very evenly matched. With the smaller number of teams, the champion- ship game will be' played at the Wingham Arena, on Tuesday, March' 22' at 9 p.m. With the increase in number of teams entered, the tournament will be , played on three ice surfaces..A total of 16 games. will be , played,, at the Howick Centre, an arena which is 14 *miles north of Wingham on Highway 87. There will also be 13_,games played at The arena in LitcknoW; a village 11' miles, west of Wingham on Highway 86. Most of these games will be played on the opening weekend of the 10-day tournament. Two of the , games at •Howick will be played on ursday, March 24.., Billeting f r the-players will, be ' in Wingham and the surrounding • area. With the tournament still a' month and half away the response from the citizens- has, been great. Citizens are getting behind the venture and are very enthusiastic about the way.the tournament, has increased over the years. The committee has been getting terrific Support from all the various clubs, groups and everyone who, in any way, can help them make• this a huge success. The Howick Community- • ntre is a new ,arena which has been open for just two _seasons. The Wingham 'Area. has had a: face lifting and will be in top shape for the tournament. 'The ice surface is larger than it was by 10 feet wide and about 15 feet long. The players benches, timekeepers bench and penalty box are now all. on the same side of the rink. There has been a• new floor installed, and the entire' uilding is'now up to the standard of a lot of places much bigger than • Wingham. It has cost a lot of money to renovate but the citizens of Wingham feel it •has all been Worthwhile. t• !1' ' • ' ATOMS 'ARE' CHAPS- the second consecutive year, Seaforth's Atom team has own the WOAA Championship. Funday T'ie Special Events commitee - for the ladies division of the. club . ,are holding a ladies Fun Day on March 15.
