All classes-will meet in CENTRAL HURON SECONDARY SCHOOL: 'INTERVIEWS ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BEGINNING:WGIKTOWARD A B.A. DEGREE? Miss Angela Armitt,, the Director of Summer School and Extension Hepartment, • The University of Western Ontario will be conducting interviews on Monday, Mdith 14th, 1977 Correspondent Vincent Lane I was recently approached .by a one time soccer player, why I did not mention in my columnat 2 weeks ago, about -St. ,Columban being a noted soccer, town, He 'Was not critical, and I explained to him that while that is not exactly history (which I steered away from), it does date back to 1920 and at that time and up to about 1940, it was called football. Many championship • teams competed in the H.F.A. "Huron Football Assoc,,',' Since the arrival of new Canadians, it is now called soccer, and requires greater skill and team combination and as I viewed, it's more interesting to watch. And as I say not it's .that knock him down, drag hiM out, type of sport. St. columban has competed very successfully in the London and district soccer, both in 2nd and 3rd division and I understand will enter a, team in each division this -year. They also have Champion pee wee team forhoys up to 13 yrs, as well as bantams to 16, so that material will be available for the leture. Keep in-mind thafwe do- ,get help from Dublin. While they do not compete in soccer, they in turn get help from us in many other team sports. Why bother with all this'kid stuff? (You may be s a lot of expense and time consuming. Personally I would consider it time and money well spent. I have often said, give me a boy or girl that. I can interest in sports or music and I can assure you a good future citizen, It helps to grow strong minds and bodies and with their studies, they find little "tine for other nonsense. Perhaps because we have been , successful in team sports over the' pit; credit can be given to parents, and friends of players who support them with their attendance by showing them Hillside Nursing Home. They „lived here for years. They are sorely 'missed in this community when we thiirdt of all''the good times we had together at our farm forums.
