White gifts presented
Two services were held at
Hensall United Church on
Sunday. In the morning, White
Gift Sunday was celebrated by the
whole congregation bringing their
gifts and placing them in a
man,ger. The Junior Choir very
sweetly sang, "The Little
Drummer_ Boy", and "Do you
Hear what I hear?" in the first
part of the service and the
"Westminster Carol" with the
solo being taken by Randy Parker
later.
The choir was trained by Mrs.
Mary Lou Hyde and the pianist
was Mrs. Robert Pryde. The third
Advent Candle, pink for Joy was
lit by Michael McGregor.
In place of the sermon, the Rev.
Don Beck told a story, "Lost in
the Woods" completing a happy_
morning.
In the evening, the choir
presented a ,Christmas Cantata,
"Joy to the World" which told
the ever new story of the
Nativity. The presentation was
further enhanced by a tableau of
the N ativity Scene. Taking part
in the scene were Lisa Hyde, Paulck
Mansfield, Janet McAllister,
Debbie Venner, Jennifer Cook,
Melissa Veal and Brad Mann.
Narrator was Rev. Don Beck and
directing was Mrs. Rodger
Venner. Soloists in the cantata
were Miss Brenda Pepper, Mrs.
Bill Fuss and Miss Mary
Goodwin.
Flowers in the Sanctuary were
placed there in loving memory of
Mrs. Alvina Mooney by her
family.
Personals
Miss Maragaret Hyde of
London spent the weekend with
her parents Mr. and Mrs. Harvey
Hyde.
Mrs. Bertha MacGregor was.a
recent visitor with Mrs. Eric
Munroe at Seaforth.
Mrs. Harry Horton who has
been a patient in South Huron
Hospital,Exe4er, returned to her
home last week.
Mrs. Herb Stretton who was
receiving treatment in South
Huron Hospital, Exeter was able
-to return home on Saturday.

Mary Turner
Maiy Turner will long
remember December 11th, 1976
as a milestone in her life. It was
the day she celebrated her 100th
birthday.
The youngest and. last
surviving child of 14 born to
Edward Turner and Eliza Code,
Miss Turner spent most of her
early life on the farm where she
100 YEARS — Miss Mary Turner of Huronview, and a native of Tuckersmith
Township, celebrated her 100th birthday last Saturday with family and friends.

Honoured on 100th birthday
In 1894, Miss Turner moved to
Wingham. She lived most of her
adult life in Wingham, spending
nine years, until. 1969 in Nelson
and Chilliwack, B.C., On
February 3rd, 1969, at the age of
92, Miss Turner became a
resident of Huronview, where• she
presently resides.

Entertaining has been the main
objective of the Hensall.
Women's Institute during
December. On the first oaf • the
month they set out to provide the
entertainment 'at the monthly
birthday party at Huronview.
Thirty-one birthday gifts were
Presented, including ones to Miss
Clarinda Darroch arui Miss Mary
Turner, both of whom attain the
grand age of one hundred this
month.
The programme was a
rehearsal of a country school
Christmas party, conducted by
the teacher, (Mrs. James
McAllister) and the pupils, (the
other members of the Women's
Institute), Special guest was
Huronview birthday party

"Holy , Night" was the title of
an excellent slide presentation, of
the Christmas theme given by
Rev, E.S .Stephens of Brucefield
at the Christmas meeting of the
United Church Women of Hensall
and Chiselhurst United Church on
Monday evening. Preceding the
slides Rev. Stephens told ,a
story, "If I had not come",
showing what,the world might be
like if Jesus had not been born.
Carols were sung before and after
the speaker.
Mrs. Ken Elder opened the
meeting with a simple but sincere
devotional pointing out that it is
Faith .at Christmas time that
makes the Christmas story come
true 'again each year. It is the
baby Jesus that brings us our
faith.Reading the scripture was
Mrs.Ken McLean.
The annual meeting of the
Hensall U.C.W. chaired by Mrs.
lan McAllister, was held prior to
the Christmas meeting when the

January for a course on quilts and
quilting..

After singing the Queen, the
meeting was adjourned.

The W.M.S. of Carmel
Presbyterian Church held their
Christmas meeting in the
schoolroom of the church or,
Monday evening with the
President, Mrs. Harvey Hyde
opening the program with two
poems "The Glory of Christmas"
and "It's Christmas In YOur
Heart". Mrs. Edith Bell was in
charge of the worship.
The scripture was read by
Mrs. Bertha MacGregor and Mrs`.
Esther Wright led in prayer. Mrs.
Bell gave a most interesting
meditation on "The Birth of Hope
and Peace". Mrs.Hyde presided
over the business apd read a
poem on the "Least Coin".
- Mrs. Malcom Dougall gave the

Huron Road Survey, Tuckersmtih
Township.
Edward Turner Sr., Miss
Turner's grandfather bought the
farm property from the Canada
Company in 1833. Today, six
generations later it remains in the
Turner family and is farmed by
one of Miss Turner's grand
nephews, George Turner.
Elmer Trick of Clinton, who gave
some lively isntrurnentals.
The same 'programme was
repeated at the Blue Water Rest
Home on December 8 for their
birthday party. Emcee was
President Mrs. Cecil Pepper and
accompanying at the piano was
Mrs.Tom Sherritt. In place of Mr.
Trick,Cathy Love of R.R-#I,
Zurich gave some numbers on her
guitar.
Following the entertainment
and lunch, the members of the
Women's Institute Adjoined to the
Board Room for business. It was
decided to approach a few
members of the community
regarding attending .the Senior
Training School in Clinton in
report of the nominating
Committee as follows: President -
