"Contingent upon Ministry of Education grant approval" the Huron Cdunty Board of Education moved to approve the purchase of six new school buses at its meeting on Monday afternoon. On- November 22 the Manage- ment Committee of the Board discussed the advisability of the purchase and agreed to recommend .that the move be Carried out. Four of the new buses will be of _ 72 passenger capacity with the 7s remaining two being fitted for 60 passengers. They are to be delivered during the period of January to August,of 1977. ;11 in the morning until about 2 in the afternoon, according to new PUC manager Toni Phillips. Peak h ydro use hours in the cities are from 5 to 7 p.m. and utilities inl big cities around the province have been asking customers to cut down on power use during that early evening time or face power cuts. Some cities have had power cuts of 25 minutes, rotating from area to area and there has been talk that it may be ncessary to cut • down on the flow of power, because one of Ontario flydro's generating stations has broken down. Christmas time is when hydro use all over the province is at its peak. Mr. Phillips says it's doubtful that power interruptions or cutbacks will be necessary in Seaforth because we are very close to two feeder lines running to the substation in Tuckersmith. But that doesn't mean that Seaforth PUC customers should forget being careful about how, much power they use.. Seaforth should be okay as long as people use restraint, Mr. Philips says. The PUC itself has cut down quite a bit on' the Christmas season power consumption by eliminating strings of lights from the Main St. lamp post decorations and by putting decorations up, but riot lighting them, on Goderich St. "It's better to have partial power than cut offs," the PUC manager said. People can also help keep power consumption down by turning their outdoor Christmas lights and tree lights on at 7 p.m. and off when they go to bed, according to Ontario Hydro. Seaforth's peak power use time is so much earlier than the peak time in the cities, Mr, Phillips says, because industry here, shuts Prohaby the general glib* doesn't realize OAP debt that Ve 4 the Expositor awe to the volunteers who provide the excellent sports coverage that you read here every week, Bob Dinsmore, Dave Broome', fiord Moylan, Gordon Nobel, Anne Underwood, Gwen Patterson, Laurie S avauges Mary Finlayson and sevetal other people work hard so that the" public can read stories about their sports. We just don't have the staff to have a reporter assigne,d to sports stories. but because of these dedicated volunteers, we get some of the sports •news that our readers like. But there are other active sports groups in Seaforth whose game .results don't reach our paper. This is a plea for them to get in touch. Minor hockey scores and game stories, figure skating, snowmobile and ringette news would be especially welcome. If these groups and others could find a willing volunteer who'd gather the material for us, we'd be happy to rewrite it and print their news every week. If your group has a benefit game or a tournament coming up, tell us about it and we'll give you some publicity. And send us the scores after the games are over and we'll print them too. The Expositor is trying to improve its sports coverage. We send photographers to get photos at hockey games. We're glad to take team photos and photos at Turkheim • runs again When members of the Huron County Board of Education were given an opportunity on Monday afternoon to announce their candidacy to top Board positions, only present Chairman Herb Turkheim indicated his intention to seek that position. There will be,. a contest for the vice-Ch airman' s position however. An eight year veteran of the Board, Marian Zinn and John Elliott of Blyth, both indicated their aspirations for that post. (Continued on Page 16) parking is one 0 the conveniences that shoppers demand, If they can't get 'it in Seaforth, they, like my caller, .will spend their money elsewhere; Tile livelihood of our downtown and our jobs in the long run depend on it. We at the Expositor are among the worst offenders. But we're going to ask our employees, and the boss too, to stay out Of those front line parking places. ***,..** One of my favourite things about Christmas is the chance to listen to Christmas carols. even sing them if my husband isn't around to stop me. That's why I'm especially happy about the Expositor's Christmas Carol Song, Sheet, on pages 11 and 12A of this week's paper. Make sure you cut it out and save it, and take it along to your frustrated lady said to me on the' Christmas parties. I'm sure a lot phone Friday morning. She rhymed off a list of places where she wanted to shop here on Main St., but most of the downtown parking spaces were taken up by the cars of local merchants and their employees. She'd finally given up in disgust and gone• home, to plan her trip to Stratford, probably to a shopping centre where parking places are plentiful. She's got a point. It wouldn't hurt all of us to remember, especially at this busy Christmas season, that if we want people to shop in Seaforth, we've got to have places for them to park. It's just not sensible to have two and three or even one car belonging to employees of a parked smack that customer Every business person's car parked on Main St. means that there's one less space fur a carload, of shoppers. We downtown workers can park on the back streets or in the alleys behind stores. Even better we could all follow the example of a few Seaforth merchants, the Lingelbachs and the Izacovics come to mind, who, and, hoiror of horrors, walk to work. The walls, especially if it's just from a parking place a block away, won't hurt us. But absolutely the best letter we've received so far, we can't print in the paper, although of course we'll send it along to Santa with all the others. According to its envelope, it's a letter from Angela. Inside the sheet of paper is covered with squiggles and lines in Angela's• own writing.
