(By Francine Visser)
Every year around this time,
one of Miss Teslcy's hoine econo-
mice classes plans a Christmas
dinner for the staff. This year also
the dinner was• planned for
Friday, December 3, It had been
arranged that the Home/ Econo-
mics class would prepare the food
in their class the day before
Friday and then they would also
get all of Friday off to finish
preparing, to serve and to clean
up.
However, on Thursday some-
thing.unexpected came up! The
weather was too bad for school to
stay in commission so everyone
was sent home before they could
even begin preparations. Miss
Tesky asked the students in her
class to stay 'anyway but most of
them had no other way home
You would think that because
of these factors, the dinner would
have been cancelled or postponed
to anotrier rime. But, if you were
to have looked into the Home Be.
room. on Thursday, you would not
have seen an empty room, instead
you would have seen a great
flurry of activity. Rather than give
up their Christmas dinner the
next day, some of the teachers
decided to help prepare it along
with a few students.
You would have seen teachers
peeling potatoes, making relish
'trays, making salads, etc. The
next day everything went over
smoothly and the staff enjoyed
themselves as much as any other
,year or even more.

„Don't blame council
Recently, there has been attacks against the Student Council.
Some people say that the council is not doing its job and it seems
this discussion stems from the "restr ictions" incident, This
attack is unfair indeed. The council had No control, over the
incident of two weeks ago. Mr. Shaw, right or wrong, fs the.
power in the school. His word is final. Although it is their ditty to
express the opinions of the masses, it would have made little
difference an this case. Their hands were tied.
This year's school government has dohe more than any other'
council. The ca feteria is controlled by the school. The
Magazine, Expositor campaign experienced its greatest success
'ever this year. The groups performing at our dances have been
the best we've ever had. Future plans include'the completion of
the student's lounge and the' operation of a few fund raising •
programs.
These accomplishments prove the council is doing ;its job.
4.4,Every activity is for the student' body's benefit.
The constitution states that the responsil ility of our
government is to: I. 'Sponsor and co-ordin to all extra-
curricular activities. Z. Promote best possible student-staff
relations, 3. Foster school spirit. 4. Govern all student
organizations and 5. Assist individuals in assuming respons-
ibility for themselves and for others. They are doing well, even
though the job is difficult, They are doing their best, but you
can't please everyone.
The Student Council was caught in the middle this time. One
incident shouldn't result in the condOming of the council. They
are the best. If you have a complaint, we have a suggestion
box. . .Use it!
Senior
girls in
WOSSA
(By Anita Andree)
The WOSSA finals for the
senior girls basketball team did
not prove to be as successful as
they had hoped it would be.
The senior girls, basketball
team won by a narrow margin of
47-45 against another good team
,of West Elgin. The game was,
close, fast and exciting.
pla
Tie —following game was not
yed with the same results and
the girls lost against Annadale
Tillsonburg with a score o.03-29,
again, another close score.
Cheryl Seymour 'was the
highest scorer, a total of 8 points
toward lief team. It Was 'greatly
'appreciated by both her teamates
as well as S.D.H.S.
The senior girls basketball
team gave an excellent try and
the rewards were not as good as
they had hoped. Their efforts
were apprecia ted though and we
wish them the best a luck in the
future.

Stuidents do behave
This article is in regards to a letter of criticism from a
concerned citizen of. Segforth towards the school and what,
on around it during, school hours and especially at 54901 4.444e".
The letter directed much criticism towards the student body
and stated that on the nights of school dance, the streets in
Seaforth are chaotic, that there were more people outside the
gym' than inside and that the police could do a better job at the •
dances held at the high school. ,, 4
Firstly, it is not only students from Seaford) that attend dances
held attfre High School and I don't think the students from
SeaforthIldstrict High School can be held responsible for' the
actions of people from other towns. The vandalism which did
occur at the last dance was the only case at, the high school this
year.
This vanda▪ lism amounted to a few car aerials being broken 'off
and one case of bent windshield wipers. I might also add thatthis
the crowd -in attendance consisted largely of people from out of
tow n. happened to people who attend Seaforth High School and that
As far as more people being outside the gym than inside; this
happens only when the band is having their break and the people
go outside where it is • not as warm and stuffy as.• in the
,gymnasium.
The actions of the people inside the gym are controlled by the
Student Council, the prefects and the chaperones. While actions
outside the school are controlled by 'the police. In fact, Police
Chief John Cairns was in attendance at.the last dance (in plain
clothes) and said that he thought the students were quite well
behaved.
I personally think the police are doing the best they can at the
dances. There haVe been no disturbances at the dances this year
and if and when, there are, the police will certainly bd called to
handle the situation.
I hope this article has given people an insight into what goes
on at the high school dances and shows people that these dance's
are not as bad as everyone thinks they are.
