HOTEL STOOD ON MAIN CORNER — Robert Carmichael, left,
was the owner of the large brick hotel, containing two stores,
called 'Mansion House, which he built in 1869. The hotel; on the
corner of Main and Goderioh, and all the wooden stores next to it
down as far as John St. in the upper photo were burned in the
great 1876 fire. The lower photo has the date 1876 on 'the back
and must have been taken before the September fire. The photos
are courtesy of Gilchrist Livingstone Coppin, of Arizona, ,a great
granddaughter of Mr. Carmichael. Mr. Carmichael rebuilt his
hotel, the present brick Ouilding, in 1877.

held in the church on Thursday,
October '7. The meeting opened
with Mrs. Jim McAllister reading
some quotations from the fall,
edition of "Ideals", and "Come,
ye thankful people, come" was

the piano. Mrs .Nan Britton gave
an inspiring devotional entitled
"Thanks Giving in Thanks
Living" She closed with a poem.

hymn, "Spirt, 'Strength of all the

are a world-wide food and also
that the cereal group is the main,

sorts of activity.. Everyone
participated in making and
cooking fry-pan cookies.
The second meeting was held
on October 4. The ' • leaders
discussed parts of a kernel of
wheat and learned about cereal
products, whole grain and refined
grain. Mrs. !?....pper shinved us
how to make'Red River cereal and
also made dogwood, a product
using ground lean beef and rolled
oats, put in wiener buns. The next
meeting will be held on October,
