SHORTER LINE UPS THIS YEAR — Officials at Hensall Co-Op are predicting that
the lineups at their elevators will be at least 25 per cent shorter this year, thanks to
a sampling device that allows one load to be dropped on top of another. The local
firm has been investiciating and\planning for the new machine, the first in this area,
for five years, according to manager Archie Couper. (Staff Photo)

Farmers who take their beans
or grain to the Hensall District'
Co-operative may wait less time
in line because of a new piece of
equipment; one of the first in
Ontario..
The Hensall Co-op has recently

top of the previous one without
waiting for it to be tested and
cleaned.
The new system involves the
taking of as`sample from the loads
as they come in. A probe
automatically takes a sample all
the way through the load in two or
three different spots to get a
cross-section. This is then sucked
into, „the, „main, off e, througha
- tube where the grain, or what-
ever, is poured into a divider. One

PUC want
$15,000 loan
Despite an earlier statement
that they would be able to cover
0 the cost of the purchase of a dump
' truck,and-•a---back.lioe;-•the - Public
Utilities Commission decided at
their meeting.last Wednesday to
request permission from town
council to take out a loan of
$15,000.
"I thought we ) could afford
this," said Mayor Betty Cardno
when informed the Commission
would need the money. "This
commission is obligated to pay off
any borrowing by the end of this.
Year as our term ,is up,"
The PUC originally decided to
buy a back-hoe and dump truck
instead of renting them because
they had a large amount of work
which required their use while the
sewers are being installed.
PVC manager, Walter Scott,
said that unexpected expenses
had made it impossible for the
PUC to pay' the bills without
taking out a loan. Mayor Cardno
told the Commission that debent-
uring would be unacceptable.
The PUC should be able to
repay the loan before the end of
the year, Walter' Scott said,
provided that the Commission
doesn't approve a lot of new
connections and other capital
expenses. •
'V The PUC- discussed the
posSible sale cif, three lots on the
end of Wells Street which have a
total area cif 8,60 square feet.
The Commission felt that they
should advextise them for sale at
a price of about $8,000. each and
after they find a buyer seek the
needed approval of Ontario Hydro
for the• sale. The matter was
tabled for the tune being, while
lot prices were looked into.
"There is no reason the PUC
shouldn't get top dollar," said
Walter Scott, manager.

The new system, which cost
about $35,000 for equipment

he had to previously spend
