The second game for the
Texaco • Duffers proved more
exciting but just as frustrating as
they blew a 4-1 lead and lost a 9-5
game to the Bright Arlington
Knights.
Seaforth started strong opening
a. 2-0 first inning lead and were
leading 4-1 after three innings.
They fell apart in the field as they
made several costly errors and
allowed Arlington five unearned
runs.
Both teams did better at the
plate than in,the previous contest,
as Bright collected ten hits off the
servings of Jack Price while
Seaforth managed nine hid off
the pitching of Jim Bell and C.
Riddle.
The Duffers again failed to
break the ice in Listowel but 'are
already planning for next' year.

'Monday night 'saw the Travellers
come up with a big game and
whip a lifeless Texa,Co squad by a
convincing 22-6 count.
The game was close for the first
two innings as the score was tied
,3 all after two, but the Travellers
took advantage of sloppy play and
countless errprs in the third to
seem 7 big runs and walk away
from the Duffers. •
Kevin Kerr led the Travellers
— with two triples and a single as
they managed a fourteen hit
attack. The Duffers could only
manage nine hits as they lost
their batting eye. Only Fred
Burton managed the long ball as
he collected a triple and a home
run, but all in vain as the Duffers
made 10 errors in the field.

then struggle to hang on for a 14

street started strong taking
advantage of early inning jitters

Mainstxeet stretched-the lead
to 13-6 after three innings but the

postponed
St. Columban travelled to
London on July A lth to play
Lusitanos. However, the referee
failed to appear and the game will
have to be rescheduled.
St.Columban plays the same'll
Lusitanos team on July 14th in a
3rd Division Cup, semi-final
game.
This Sunday, July 18th, the
game is in London again, this
time against the Portuguese "B"
team. Next home game is on
Sunday, August 8th.

Pool 'was a roneh closer affair as
the Queens came from behind to
squeak out a narrow 15.13 win
over a determined Firemen
squad, ,The Queens started fast
opening up a 6-1 .first inning lead
and then moving up 10-4 after two
innings.
But the Firemen •then settled
down in the field and pecked
away until the fourth when they
found themselves leading 11-10.
The Queens evened the count at
eleven all making an exciting

SEAFORTH LOSES ONTARIO CUP SOCCER FINAL

teams in the Ontario Cup finals played in Seaforth on

The Texaco Duffers travelled to
the Listowel Fastball Tournament
last weekend for the sixth straight
year and for the sixth time failed
to win a game.
Stratford 5, Seaforth 1
The Duffers first game saw
Stratford Cowell defeat the
Texaco squad by a 5-1 count. Both
team went scoreless in the first
inning .but , the second frime saw,
Stratford collect 3 unearned runs
as they broke ' onto the
scoreboard.
The third inning saw Stratford
move up '5 nothing 'as they '
counted two more runs on only
two hits. The Duffers only"marker
came in the fifth inning as Fred
Berton singled dome Rick Woods.
The game was a pitching
contest as both teams managed
only 4 hits. Jim McLeod led
Seaforth with 2 singles, while
Fred Berton and Ron Betierman
collected the other two hits. The
pitching duties for Texaco were
shared by Ron Beuerman, Mike
Marion and Rick Woods while
three thirds from the Kitchener
meet.
Johnny Nielsen, who won two
first in shot put and discus; his
brother Dennis, 'who won a first in
duscus (bantam); Mark Under-
wood, Who won a second in long
p and a third in triple jump,
