buildings in' four Huron
communities.
Seaforth's tour is Sa turday
and Sunday, July 17 and 18 and
tickets for it and for tours in
Clinton this week end, Bayfield on
July 28 and 29 and the Goderich
area on August 14 and 15 are
available at The Huron

tour and there's a special rate of'

On Saturday participants in the
Seaforth tour will visit a log
house, moved from Tuckersmith
township and restored as a home
by Mr. and Mrs. Norman
MacLean, Egmondville.,
On Main Street Sills Hardware,
built in 1869, and Cardno's Opera
Hall, built in 1877, .w.hich still has
its original stage curtain will be
visited. Both Saturday and
Sunday the tour will drive down
John Street, which has several
houses of architectural and
historic interest to the white
frame St. Thomas Anglican
Church, the first permanent
church in Seaforth, built in 1863.
Restoration work is in p rogress
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Paul
Carroll, built in 1875, which will
be visited on Goderich St. West.
The tour will continue through
Harpurhey.. which was settled
many years before Seaforth and
return to the Van Egmond house,
passing some early Tuckersmith
houses.
Sunday's tour will visit the
Tuckersmith home of Mr. and
Mrs. Gerald Martene, a unique
brick cottage that was the home
and studio of artist William
Cresswell, who died there • in
1888. It will continue up the road
to Caitramont, home of MP
James Dickson from 1834, now
owned by Mr. and Mrs.Peter
Spittal who bought it from. Mr.
and Mrs. John McCowan in 1975.
Continuing around the five mile
block, to Harpurhey, the tour will
stop at the brick cottage of Mr.
and Mrs. Keith Sharp, built in
1855 by bailiff, auctioneer, and
shoe maker, Joseph P. Brine. •
Driving back into Seaforth, the
tout—will stop at the lat ge brick
home built by merchant
B.B.Gunn in 1894 and owned by
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spittal and
at the large white painted brick
home of Dr. and Mrs. Rodger
Whitman, built in the ,1860's.

him a Happy Birthday. Ice cream

United Church and the 100th
anniversary at Bayfield. They
were also guests of Mrs. Ida
Menenary, Bayfield.

Varna was in Bayfield on
Saturday to see the Centennial
parade until we returned and
found some people still in the
village. Many people from here
attended several of the activities
and had an enjoyable time.
Charlie and Louise Presber and
their daughter Anna, and Thelma
Bye, of Naicum,' Sask. spent
several d64 with Mr. and Mrs.
Lloyd Heard and family, and
visited other relatives in this area.
Walkerton spent the weekend
with their sister Mrs.E. Thomson

Mr. and Mrs. Murray Squire
and family visited with Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Allan and family.
Rev. E. S. Stephens, received
workd that his uncle in
Washington had pasied away.
Mr. Stephens left on Monday to
attend the funeral.

95th birthday when all the family

diamond. All girls and ladies over

o'clock.
The first game to be played on
the new diamond was on friday,
with Stanley A boys- playing
Auburn•. Auburn was victorious
with a score of 33 - 26.
Stanley A girls defeated
Goderich Township 24 - 23 in a
close game, and Stanley B girls
were defeated by Goderich
Township. We would like to see
more parents out to cheer the kids
on, and we Ash all the teams
luck. We hope the players will
..remember that they are playing
for fun, and that the•coaches will
insist on good sportsmanship at
all times.
The Bayfield Lions Club is
again sponsoring a bus , for
swimming lessons at the Vanastra
Pool. Lessons begin on July 1.9
and run until July 30 from 1:30 to
3:30 in the of ternoori. The cost
will be $7.00 , and the bus will
stop in Bayfield and Varna.
Registration will be Saturday,
July 10 from 10:00 to 11:00 at the
Varna corner for the Varna area
children, or register ahead of time
with Barb Consitt or Joyce
Dowson.

The ladies of Kippenattended
the U.C.W. meeting in
Chiselhurst when the U.C.W. ,of
that church entertained the ladies
from the surrounding churches.
The speaker for the evening, was
Mr. Nelson who is associated with
the Scott Mission inToronto. His
address on his experiences was
most interesting. Mrs. Nelson
contributed two solos and was
accompanied on the guitar by Mr.
Nelson.
Kippen U.C.W. held a very
successful bake sale at
Homestead near Bayfield on
Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Alex McGregor
holidayed at Frankenmuth, Mich.
at the weekend.
A miscellaneous shower was
held at the home of Mrs. Roland
McGregor in honour of Miss
Maureen connolly on Tues., June
29. A varied and interesting"
program was presented by Mary
Broadfoot, Margaret Hoggarth;
Grace Drummond, Frances
Kinsman, Janet Hoggarth, Nancy
McGregor. Mrs. EdisonMcLean
conducted two contests and read
the presentation address.
Maureen thanked everyone and

Kirkton July 31.

The REcreation Committee met
Ndnesday evening, After a
lengthy discussion on financing
the lights for the ball diamond, it
was decided to canvass the
township in hopes of raising
- $8,000 for lights, change room,
fence, swing, etc.
It is anticipated that a Wintario
grant of one third of the total cost
will be forthcoming when this
• money is raised. The Committee
feels that full use cannot be made
of the ball diamond until lights
are erected, as Varna is a farming
