representing 8 area lodges welcomed Ontario grand master Elmer Mathews of
Fergus at Seaforth Wednesday night. The new district officers headed by D.D.
grand master Wordan Haney of Seaforth were Installed in a ceremony conducted by
grand master, Mathews assisted by deputy • grand master John Broadfoot of

Attending a national
convention is a privilege that not
all of us ever attain. Therefore it
was with great anticipation that
45 ladies from -Huron
set out for Charlottetown to
attend the Seventh Tri-annual
National Convention .-„ of the
Federated Women's nstitute of
Canada. The theme
"Facing Our Challenge - Unity' is
Strength was emphasized by each
of the speakers.
Mrs. Olive Farquharson,
0 .B .E. President of The
Associated Country Women of
the World spoke. on "Facing our
Challenges". Representing eight
million women in' her world
organization, she said every
individual has the power to hinder-
or develop some aspect of world
development. W.I. members are
an informed group and often get
their start in becoming involved
in important concerns through
their organization, the 'W.I.
Basically, the , A .C.W.W . is
concerned with -helping all women
throughout the world by mutual
help in 70 countries. "Unity in
service gives unity in strength."
Speaking again the following
day on "Our International
Challenge-Unity in Action" she
stressed that basically women's
concerns are the same all over the
world - child care, nutrition,
helping the men in agricultural
skills and homemaking skills. The

The opening meeting was
presided Over by Mrs. J. A.
McLean, National President of
the Federated Women's Institute
of Canada. She listed some of the
challenges W.I. members face, '
the credibility they have achieved
through the years, their
watch-dog attitude on
government, inflation and land
use and their resourcefulness in
policy making organizations.

The regular meeting of St.
Paul's A.C.W. was held in the
church basement. Thursday
afternoon, The president, Mrs.
Forrest, opened the meeting with
the Members Prayer. The hymn,
"Joy to the World" was sung
after whirl Mrs. Windover read
the scripture I. John 5 vv I - 5.
Mrs. Annie Reid gave the
meditation and every one took
part in the Litany, which was
followed by a prayer,.
Roll call was answered with a
Bible verse containing' a
flower. The minutes of the last
meeting were read and 'approved.
A letter was read from Port
Hope, Ontario, thanking the
ladies for the bale sent in the
Spring, also from Rev, Seeg-
miller, a former rector of St.
Paul's church. Miss Petty gave
the study book on,kindness. Mrs.
Anderson closed the meeting with
a prayer after which an "old
saying" contest was enjoyed by
all,

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corbett and
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Flynn enjoyed a
fishing trip to Silver Lake on the
weekend.
A number of ladies of the
Christian Women's Club met at
the Village Inn, Grand Bend, on
Friday and enjoyed the
Fellowship hour following the
luncheon when Mrs. Warren,
formerly of Crediton, was guest
speaker.
A beautiful day prevailed as the
Kippen and Brucefield United
Churches held, their joint outdoor
service and picnic under the
shade. trees at Hully Gully on
Sunday morning at 11 .o'clock
with -about 200 in -attendance.
Rev. E.S.Stephens conducted the
service.
The K ippen Junior Choir and
Brucefield Choir each provided
special numbers accompanied by
Gayle Horton.. Grant Jones and
, Karen McGregor.
Following the service everyone
enjoyed a smorgasboard dinner.
