Remember . It's Sense to See
Seaforth Soccer teams .won two
victories in the first round of
Ontario Cup play on the weekend.
On Saturday, June 26th, the
Seaforth Pee Wee team
(Continentals) boarded the bus at
the High School to go to St.
Catharines for the first round of
the Ontario Cup Competition .The
boys along wit parents, coach
and manager ha a fine trip with
time Out for lu c and arrived at
St. Catharines in good time for
kick-off at 2:00 p.m,
The Seaforth boys were ready
and put the pressure on St.
Catharines from the minute the
game was underway. It paid off at
the ten minute mark when Dennis .
Nielsen scored from a fine pass by
Pete Underwood. Fifteen minutes
later Steve Underwood placed a
perfect shot in the upper right
hand corner on a pass from M ark
Underwood, making it 2-0 for
Seaforth. St. Catharines did not
give up for a minute and they
scored on a good hard shot from
the 'left wing.
In the .second half Seaforth bad
the wind against them and had to
work hard all through. It paid off
in a lime goal by Brett Finlayson
who placed a booming shot in the
upper left corner. Brett was set
up by passes from Joe Anstett
and Steve Drager, St. Catharines
responded in two minutes with
another goal - a shot from well out
that drifted over our goal tender.
With energetic defence and
goal tending this proved to be the
last goal of the ,game, Seaforth
coming lime with a 3-2 win over
St. Catharines. The team's
happiness was evident, on
beaming (and perspiring) faces.
The onlookers were proud and
, happy not only for the win but the
fine display of team soccer shown
by all the boys. Good luck on the
second round boys!
The Continentals Line-Up:
Goal Tenders - Mike Scott, Rebert
Thompson; Joe Anstett, Darrell
Dietz, Steve, Drager, Brett
Finlayson Mark Flanniga'n, Billy
Livingston. Jim McClure, Dennis
Nielsen, Brad Rice, Mark, Peter
and Stephen Underwood, Dennis

say§ thanks very much to the
parents who went along and • a
special thanks to Tom Phillips
who made sure the ride was very
pleasant.
Fonthill Here
On Sunday. ,June 27th,
Fonthill came to. Seaforth to play
the Mosquitos in the first round of
the Ontario • Cup Soccer
Competition. A more exciting
soccer game would be. hard •to
find. Although Seaforth had the
edge in play. superb goaltending
by Fonthill, kept the game at 0 - 0
at half time with fine refereeing
by Hans Silberman from
Stratford.
It was a good soccer game iron;
all aspects: nice passes, clean
tackling and a game where both
teams had to play to their peak.
Twenty minutes into the second
half Fonthill scored the only goal
in the 'game from well out. •
Seaforth goal. tender Jim
Savange, who played an
outstanding game, got a piece of
the ball but could not hold it.
Although Seaforth pre,ss-ed hard
to put the game info overtime
they did not succeeds mostly
because of great goal-tending '
from Fonthill. Even though the
Seaforth boys lost 1 - 0 a better
game has never been played in
the Mosquito Division, and
coach Aage Marcussen is very
proud of his players for their
effort.

The Seaforth Atom
"Olympics" travelled to
Kitchener on June 26th for their
first round of Ontario Cup
Competition. The Kitchener
"Gunners" lived up to their name
"shooting" eighteen or more
balls into the net with Seaforth
unable to reciprocate. The Atoms
shouldn't feel badly. They are a
young team and were up against ,
second year Atom All-Stars
chosen from two hundred boys.
There is always another game,
and don't forget the Seaforth
Atoms did beat Goderich!
