The Huron Expositor, 1976-07-01, Page 5game with good passing plays to win 3-0. As I observed the game from the sidelines with a 'fairly good crowd on a hot afternoon, no one seemed to be that enthuse& They were lying or sitting on the grass or in.cars, some drinking pop with potato chips well back from the playing field. To me it was like a day at the beach, without the beach. Much unlike the old days when they lined sometimes two deep and took a lot of policing to keep them off the field. Uowever if you are a soccer fan and want to see soccer as it should be played and see the crowd as well, I promise you'll not be disappointed. I have little to report on Minor Soccer, only that Ray Swart, coach of the Pee Wee's, reports they have won all their games so far., and with the assistance of some of the boys from last year, the Champion MosqUitos team expects to have a strong contender this season. Last Sunday p.m., I witnessed the first senior soccer'game in 3 years. When St. Columban was in the second division of London and district soccer and played their home games at Seaforth D.H.S. ball field, I was amazed that this team, while playing 3rd division, are a better balanced team than they that were top of the 2nd division at that time. True. They have no Brian Melady, Gerald Ryan, who was leading scorer of second division, Larry Kale, Paul O'Reilly and the MeClures. But they have Brian Murray, Mary Kale, Paul Coyne, Brad Finlayson, to only mention a' few., that _I ebserved as 'close contenders.
