However, 'the addition that is
finally under*ay at AMAG has
been provincially approved, at
more than one million, &altars.
There is considerable resentment
that obligates the county to.pay 25 among some members of council
per cent of , all provindaillY — that the county is now obligated
approved costs of construction at
any hospital in Huron County,
The matter was never resolved
at this month's session, and the
recommendation from the
Executive Committee to, rescind
the by-law was referred back to
them for further discussion,
The main argument centred
around funds from the county,
allocated toward Goderich
Alexandra Marine and General
Hospital because of the by-law.
When the original plans for the
construction at AMAG were
drawn up in 1910, the addition of
emergency facilities were to have
cost about $300,000. The county-
was prepared to pay 25 per cent of
$300,000, according to many
members of council.
A large portion of the afternoon
session of Huron County Council
last Thursday in Goderich was
taken up arguing about whether
or not to rescind a county, by-law
County council argu9s hOspitai funding
hospitals are concerned,"
"There's nothing' to stop the
province' from approving a four
. million dollar hospital," said
Reeve BiliztIston. "Then they
would co e along and say, okay
boys, you pay one million dollars.-
Stranger things do happen." .
"I really think we should be
doing something about this
by-law or we're going to be in
-trouble," he added.
Deputy-reeve Bill Morley
suggested that the previous
by-law be rescinded and a new
*by-law be passed, saying that
county council would be
responsible for 25 percent of the
approved building costs up to one
million dollars,
"Then you'd
everybody alike,"
Wm. Morley.
"Are we afraid
council won't have
responsibility to,
hospitals. alike?"

Colbeatle Township, also
chairman of Goderich hospital
board, said all hospitals should be
treated alike. He urged "Minty
council to remember that two-
third of the cost of hospital
construction* is' paid by the
province, one-quarter is presently
picked up by the county and about
eight per cent of the total cost
must J3e raised locally,
"If the county cots, back on its
portion, it is only increasing the
amount that must be raised
locally," said McNeil.
Reeve G arty Ginn of Goderich
Township said -the by-law should
not be rescinded.
"What if we, rescind the by-law
and Clinton hospital decides to go
'It alone on a building project,"
said Reeve Gin. "It could happen,
and we could be asked to pay 50
percent or more of the costs.
What would we do then? We
would really be charged with
being unfair as far as the other

Lobb of Clinton. "Our hokpital
will never be closed again. It will
be improved inside of a year and
it will be accredited too. This
county can surely look after this
25 per cent as we go.along."
County administrator Bill
fierily said the county council, had
been under the impression that
the five county hospitals 'were
planning-together where building
priorities were concerned. When
Clinton Hospital was closed, -it
was apparent _that the hospitals
weren't working together.
"All this recommendation is
saying is, let's get this house :in
order," said Hanly, "let's find,
out ,, where we're headed for
certain and then the county can
decide funding. But the reserve
fund will remain as it is now, until
then."
'Constance
Silver Spurs meet
to pay about $225,000 toward the
hospital in Goderich.
Reeve Bill Elston of Morris
Township, 'also a member of
executive committee, said it was
the committee's intention to
"show the government it couldn't
come and get one-qdarter' of the
construction costs for hospitals
and then do as they like about
closing them or keeping them
gpen".
Reeve Elston charged that the
government of Ontario rode
"Rough shod" over the people of
this county. He said when the
county pays one-quarter of the
bill, it should also have some of
the say.
Reeve Doug McNeil. of
