There were about 70 Cases in the province and four were fatal. Public health officials feel there may be -a recurrence this year and have issued, a warning advising every householder to eliminate mosquito breeding sites on his property. They advise people to eliminate all standing water around the house and to dispose of empty cans or pails, upending buckets or any othei containers left outdoors, Water in wading pools or bird baths should be changed every week. while eavestroughs,o- driveway gutters and ditches' should be kept from clogging: Low depressions in the yard should be . filled in to prevent standing water and stored boats and rain barrels. should be emptied of water. It is also suggested that a Water pergon restrict outdoor activity in the evening when mosquitoes are most active. Holes .it ° window or door screens should be repaired and the , screens-, should be checked to make sure they are tight, Dampers on fire places should be clo sed when not in use as well. Mayor Cardno 'suggested that the connection charge be raised to cover the cost and said the PUC would recover the money spent running services past vacant lots in the future when they were connected. The figure bf .$600 was considered but . Mayor Cardno hesitated at such an increase. "We have to be careful not-2..to get too far out of line with other areas. If we are much higher we , 4 will defeat our- development chances," she said. According to Mr. Scott other area municipalities charge $300 as Seaforth does now. Commissioner, Dr. Rodger Whitman suggested that $400 would be a proper charge and would allow the PUC to collect enough to cover miff.' of the connection costs. But Mayor Cardno was reluctant to let the charge go that high, "I'm scared to get 'flitch higher than $350-," she said. With a motion of adjournment ,H4 on the floor the Commission decided that for the present each , new reconnection would be• negotiated separately depending on the costs.
