OK,' ORVILLE WE'LL GET YOU OUT — Postmaster Orville Oke '(behind bars,
centre) was arrested at his Goderich St. .W. home Saturday and taken to jail by
constable Fred Burton, left with the machine gun. Orville didn't have to languish in
jail long though;- three members of his staff balled him out with a donation to the
arena phonathon. Getting the postmaster out are Jane Smale, Joyce Miller, and
Helen MacKenzie. (Staff Photo)

Last. year„ a disease known as
encephalites which is spread by
some kinds of mosquitoes
occurred -in Ontario for the firSt
tune. There were about 70 Cases
in the province and four were
fatal. Public health officials feel
there may be -a recurrence this
year and have issued, a warning
advising every householder to
eliminate mosquito breeding sites
on his property.
They advise people to eliminate
all standing water around the
house and to dispose of empty
cans or pails, upending buckets or
any othei containers left
outdoors, Water in wading pools
or bird baths should be changed
every week. while eavestroughs,o-
driveway gutters and ditches'
should be kept from clogging:
Low depressions in the yard
should be . filled in to prevent
standing water and stored boats
and rain barrels. should be
emptied of water.
It is also suggested that a
Water
pergon restrict outdoor activity in
the evening when mosquitoes are
most active. Holes .it ° window or
door screens should be repaired
and the , screens-, should be
checked to make sure they are
tight, Dampers on fire places
should be clo sed when not in use
as well.
' There is no known treatment
for ehcephalitis which is
characterized by drowsiness, loss
of appetite, fever, nausea,
headache and vomiting.
Therefore, prevention is ..vital.
PUC seeks
clearance
for hydro
increases,
If the PUC gains approval from
Ontario Hydro for a rate change,
Seaforth's hydro rates should be
increased by the first of July-,
according to Walter Sciki,PITC-
manager.
The PUC, which raised power
rates .to Seafaorth customers by
lA ...percent last August,, applied
• for a further rate increase last
February to cover the 22 percent,
jump in Hydro's charge to , the
PUC. Mr. Scot t.aid at the time
that Seaforth PUC was- having to
carry an extra $7,000 a month in
expenses Which could be covered
by about an 11 percent increase to
Seaforth' customers, '
SO NEAR AND YET SO FAR — Mayor Betty Cardno
hams it up with the Clinton town councillor Roy.
Wheeler who spent quite a bit of his time Saturday, in
the phonathon jail, raising money to help financd
Seaforth's arena renovations. 'Clinton Police Chief
Lloyd Westlake was "arrested" at the opening of the

lots. Mayor Cardno 'suggested
that the connection charge be
raised to cover the cost and said
the PUC would recover the money
spent running services past
vacant lots in the future when
they were connected.
The figure bf .$600 was
considered but . Mayor Cardno
hesitated at such an increase.
"We have to be careful not-2..to
get too far out of line with other
areas. If we are much higher we
, 4 will defeat our- development
chances," she said.
According to Mr. Scott other
area municipalities charge $300
as Seaforth does now.
Commissioner, Dr. Rodger
Whitman suggested that $400
would be a proper charge and
would allow the PUC to collect
enough to cover miff.' of the
connection costs.
But Mayor Cardno was
reluctant to let the charge go that
high,
"I'm scared to get 'flitch higher
than $350-," she said.
With a motion of adjournment
,H4 on the floor the Commission
decided that for the present each
, new reconnection would be•
negotiated separately depending
on the costs.
