It was bad news for the
residents of the Village of Hensall
Monday night when council
passed the 1976 budget which
hits residential public school
rate-payers with a 26.16 mill rate
increase over last year. The jump
from 79.77 mills last year to
103.93 this year, fneans that a
person with an assessment of
_.$6,900 will be n_a_yinC $156.96
more in 'municipal taxes than fie
did a year ago.
Residential separate school
supporters face a 25.80 increase
in their mill rate from 83.67 mills
last year to 109.47. The commer-
cial rate for public supporters has
shot up 27.66 mills from 91.26 last
year to 118.92 mills this year and
the commercial rate for separate
school supporters has increased
28.81 millS from 96.26 in 1975 to
125.07 in 1976.
The reason for the tax jump_ is
partially attributable to an under-
levying on last year's taxes
according to. Bob Heil, village
clerk.
Aubrey Farquhar, and brothers
Russel and Charles of Exeter.
Funeral service was held from the
Dinne 'y Funeral ' Home, Exeter.
Saturday, May 8th, 1976 at 2 p.m.
with Rev, W.DJarvis conducting
the service. Interment in
McTaggart's. Cemetery.
Usborne council
supports complex
Although support for Exeter's
proposed Recreational Complex
has been less than promising
from area . municipalities,
Usborne Township cduncil
repeated its support for the
Complex at its regular meeting
Saturday afternoon.
Recreation representatives of
council, William Moreley and
Murray Dawson,, were instructed
to inform Exeter that "this
Council proposes to assist the
Town of Exeter , in maximizing
capital grants available for new
construction and share an aynual
Mill levy fair recreational
,purposes."
Council also increased the
interim tax levy by ten_ mills to
fifty after examining the
requisitions due to the County ,
Board of Education, and Separate.
School Board.
The Pollard Bros. Ltd.. Harrow
were awarded the contract to
apply 220 tons of liquid calcium
chloride to the roads of the
municipality at the Price of $82.50
per flake ton equivalent.
Council adjourned at 5;30 p.m.
until June 1, when it will meet at
7 p.m. at Elimville again.
Last year Hensall council did
not increase the, mill rate over
1974. At the time, council felt that
it would be the last year they
would be • able to hold the line
because of soaring education
costs.
From the taxes, Hensall needs
to raise $58,135 for general
municipal funds,' $37,351 for the
Comity _levy.„444.,_708--forpti bite
school purposes, $44,891 for
secondary school purposes and
$2,016 for separate school
purposes.
