Belmont Bombers' out-- lasted a cleterynined Centenaires squad to a4kance to the All Ontario semi-finals while the Centenaires hang up the skates for another season. The Centenaires were short handed as injuries plagued the Seaforth squad during this series Playing with only two lines and without the 'leagues two top scorers ;the Centenaires opened strong as Cam Doig, Steve Southgate and Harry Arts, con- nected to give them a 3-0 first period lead. The Seaforth club outshot the • visitors 16-14 in the first period as Lou Arts played outstanding goal, holding the Bombers off the scoreboard. ,,, The second period was all Beltnont as they changed goalies and came out strong as Chuck Peterson took just 12 seconds to put the visitors on the scoresheet. Peterson then moved Belmont to within a single marker just 30 seconds later as Belmost bombed The warm spring weather has caused cancellations of games this past week at the Club. This could create problems at playoff time, Seaforth curlers may be forced to rent ice time from area clubs in order to compfete play- offs. Looking back over the past season; a season• that normally 'should be five months, Seaforth curlers will have lost five weeks of curling due to warm weather. Well there may not have been much action at the club, but Seaforth curlers were not inactive On Saturday March 20, three rinks travelled to Ayr to partici- pate in their Mixed Bonspiel. The final period -saw Belmont again force play and move in front for the first time as Randy Foster tcored at the 2:21 mark, Cam Doig then evened the count at 6 a piece as he potted his third goal of the night. Belmont then again moved in front as Mike Lane put the Bombers in front 7,6_ Seaforth pressed in the 'dying seconds but an empty net goal by. Rick Landon with just 12 seconds left clinched the game for the visitors. Belmont again outshot Seaforth 21-11 for a Brown, with Dave and Mary Jean Beattie won one game and lost two. Bill and Marg Fleming with Don and Wendy Treineer also won one and lost two. • • 'Also on Saturday a rink of men entered the Cash Spiel in Exeter. Winning fourth prize were Bob Wilson, Bill Campbell and Doug Rowcliffe. On Sunday March 21,, the Silver- Tankard teams of Bob Wilson and Rob Robichard de- feated the Owen Sound entries in Vanastra. This made them the division winners and they travel to the Kitchener Granite Club on Friday. Each of the sixteen divisions in Ontario send, two rinks. After the first game, the eight winning A W.O.A.A. Rules Clinic will be held hereSaturday April 24 starting at 10p.m. at Seaforth District High School,. The clinic is for all softball and baseball umpires, interested in obtaining their card. . This clinic is alSo recommended for players and coaches, ree director Clive Buist says. There is no cost to attend the Clinic game total of 59,34. The win put Belmont into the provincial semi-finals and ended a ,-productive season for the. Centenaires. Seaforth finished fourth'in. the league this season but were only , 5 points from second as it was a really tight league. Seaforth also bdasted the league's two top scorers in Don Nicholson and Randy Mcginchey and had another-player Cam Doig in fifth place. Seaforth's goal tending duo of Lou Arts and Mark Nelson finished in place with a 3.67 average, while the top goalies boatted a 3:30. There are several Centenaires retiring due to age this.seagon but with a strong midget squad . and several moving up, next season should also prove to be a good year for Seaforth., There will be a banquest for the team April 3rd followed by a dance at the Legion. Their ascent to the top should be attributed to hard work, breaks and some being overhead looking down upon them with a smiling face. In the first period Brent Williamson scored for Goderich and with only 15 sec. left David, McLlwain scoring tying 'the game up. Both teams skating real hard in the second period no goals were scored. • ' • In the third period at the 8:10 mark David McLlwain scored making the score 2-1 for Seaforth. Grant Garrow scoring then for Goderich at the 5:50 mark tied the game up. With only 17 seconds left in the third 'period Sharon Ranber for Goderich scoring the winning goal making the score 3-2. Goderich being an A team and Seaforth a C team Seaforth put up a hard fight during the series. Goderich won the. Grand ChaM- pionship Trophy.
