Kings
(By Dave Broome)
Once in a while in sport
legions of fans are treated to that
rare "once in a life time game"
that comes along and leaves us
with a topic for "hot stove" for
years to come.
The 73-0 romp by the Chicago
Bears over the Washington Red-
skins may be to far back for most
of us to remember. But the
memory of that 11-0 shellacking
the Boston' Bruins handed
Toronto une night during the
1963.64 season still hasn't dim-
med ,completely.
Last Sunday night a number of
people witnessed just one of those -
games. When the Kings had
finished with the Flyers the
people at the arena had just
witnessed the most lopsided score
in I.H.L. history. The Kings
scored their first goal at the 29
second mark of the first period
and connected for their last
•niarker at 15:31 of the third
period. li between they poured
16 ,goals past Flyers goalie Larry
Senior on route to a devestating
- 18-0 romp. Would you believe the
Flyers had beaten the same Kings
by a 6-2 score the previous week?
Yes, the Flyers used a goalie,
Yes, the Flyers used three
forwards, two defenseman and a
goalie hut the way the Kings
dotninated.it was difficult to tell at
times. The 18 goal explosion were
the most goals scored in one
I.H.L. playoff gable. It was the
widest shut-out margin ever and
five Kings.each scored a hat trick.
Jerry Feeney continued his
'excellent post season play in
leading the Kings with 5 goals.
Gary Finigan netted four goals
with Dale Kennedy, also picking
up tie hat-trick. Kennedy's last
goal was a penalty shot effort-just
what the Flyers needed. Steve
Eckert and Brian Dale both
chipped in three goal game to
complete the Kings scoring.
Jerry Cooper picked up the
shut out 'ter the, Kings. Cooper
was tested in the first stanza and
stopped any difficult drives
directed his way. He probably
caught a cold standing around for
the second and, third period
though.
Larry Seymor. Flyers goalie, is
probably now recovering from
severe shell-shock. No one g6alie
this season has faced more 2,3, 4,
and 5 on one situations than
•Seyrnor last ,,Sunday night.
The Flyers will need a complete
turn around next week in order to
eliminate the Kings. If the KingS
did not blow themselves out last,
Sunday they should, win but this
has tibeen a very, very strange',
season. Game next week (March
21, 1976) Kings vs. Flyers 8:00
Seaforth Atoms
Southampton. The second period
Was scoreless and Charlie
Malcolm scored which proved to
be the winning goal midway
through the third period.
Later David Murray added an
insurance goal while Seaforth was
short-handed. Before , meeting
Southampton. the Atoms
rlitninated Mitchell and Clinton
to advance to 'the finals-.
On vvednesclay Seaforth travels
to Port Elgin to meet
Southampton in the second game
of the W.0,A.A. finals.
Currently the Atoms re in first
place in their league division and
have lost only 2 games in•regular
season play.
The third 'game of the
Seaforth-Clinton Pee Wee
playoffs was played Saturday
March 6.
After a 6 to 3 lead at the end of
second period, the local team
