Huron County plowmp
"practised up" for international
competition at the annual county
match in Colborne Township on
Saturday. The match was held on
the farm of John Clarke, Huron
Plowman's Association president.
Huron hosts the 1978
International match on the, James
Armstrong farm near Wingham.
Horse drawn plows and the
most modern farm machinery
available were all evidence.
Horsehoe pitching won by John
Watkinson and Alonzo Harburn
and log sawing competitions were
won by Don Pullen and Ray
Scotchmer were also part of the
match.
a special junior farmers match
was won by William J. Armstrong
of R.R.4, Wingham who also won
the senior high school class. John
Underwood of R.R.1, Wingham
was second and Marty Becker,
Dashwood, third.
Linda Newton of Wroxeter was,
selected Queen of the Furrow.
The young people's tractor
class was won by Currie Simpson,
Teeswater and the open tractor
competition by Don Little,
Monkton, Who also won the
special utility class. Tom Leeming
of Walton won the open class for
Huron plowmen. A green class
for novice plowmen was won by
Glenn Dougherty, R,R.6,.

school class.
Brussels minister Ken Innes
won the mounted class. Marty
Becker, Dashwood, won the four
plow contest in an around the
field contest.
The businessman's class for
non farmers was won by Ken
Duncan, .R.R., Kirkton, Roy
Pattison, R.R.3, Wingham was
second and Bill Newton, R.R.2,
Gorrie,third. This class attracted
the largest number of entries in
the match, 22.
Huron MP Robert McKinley
was one of the judges at the
event.
