Several items of business were
discussed and it was decided to
hold the Fall Bazaar on Oct. 22nd.
The visiting committee reported
calling on Shut-ins during the
summer.
Mrs. Alf Ross favored with a
piano solo. Mrs. Rosa Harris
presented the worship dwelling
on "Prayer is theKey" Hymn 503
was sung and Mrs. Beatrice
Bo yce gave the study. The
meeting closed with all repeating
the "Theme". Mrs. Erla
Coleman and Mrs., Vera Ross
were hostesses. '
Rev, W D Jarvis conducted
service in Carmel Presbyterian
Church on Sunday, speaking on
"God of all the Earth". The
session will meet on Tuesday,
Sept, 23 at 8 p.m. The Holy
Communion will be observed on
Sunda. Oct. 5th at the hour of
10 15 a, m.
On Friday afternoon Mrs.
Mabel Shirray entertained the
residents with piano selections.
Miss Amy Lammie visited with
Vera Lammie. On Monday, Mrs.
Rochus Faber in charge of the
ladies of Carmel Presbyterian
Church and they took several
residents for a drive to Seaforth,
Winthrop. Blyth, Clinton and'
visited a 1sanctuary north of
Clinton. Tuesday. Rev.
W.D.Jarvis conducted the church
service, accompanied at the piano
by Louise Mitchell. Mrs. Squire
was visited by her niece Mrs.
Ruth Brock of Goderich and her
daughter Mrs. Anderson of
`Exeter, Visitors with Mrs.E.

Park on Sunday, September 7th
With sixty in attendance. Ruth of
Hayfield and sons Ron of Clinton
and. Wayne of Toronto were
nonven'ers. The usual races were
held for the children as well as
lots of fun and games for the
adults, followed by a buffet
supper. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd
O'Brien of Zurich will convene
the reunion for next year.
UCW meets
The Chiselhurst U.0 W. held
their September meeting in the
church. President Mrs. Erla
Coleman opened the meeting with
a poem. Thirteen Members
answered the roll call with a Bible
verse on "Thanks". Following
the minutes the treasurer's report
was read.

The September meeting of
Tuckersmith Group 1, U.C. W .
was held on Tuesday, September
9th in the schoolroom of
Brucefield United Church. Mrs.
M. Haugh and Mrs. Berry were in •
charge of the devotions.
The meeting opened with the
Call to Worship in unison.
Followed by singing "What .a
Friend We Have In Jesus" with
Mrs. Ross Scott at the piano and
the Lord's Prayer in unison.' Mrs.
Berry read the Scripture 262 in
the hymn book.
The offering was received and
dedicated. Mrs. Haugh spoke on
her trip to the East Coast which
was most interesting and enjoyed
by all.Thankoffering Oct. 14,, This
part • was closed with singing
hymn "A charge to Keep I have"
and prayer by Mrs. Berry.
The president, Mrs. John
Henderson had charge of the
business portion. Mrs. Ervin
Siliery gave the secretary's report
and the treasurer's report was
given by Mrs. Berry. Some
members plan to attend the
Regional meeting at Wesley
Willis Church-also the dinner on
October- 4.

The Vanastra Parks &
Recreation Board have just
completed the mailing of their
recreational brochure covering
the fall and winter sessions..
Fifteen thousand plus were
mailed to Huron County
residents, describing 36 different
swimming programs, 11
gymnasium programs, 4 craft
programs, ballet, curling and
recreational dances.
All programs in the brochure
with the exception of curling are
held in the Vanastra Recreation
Centre at Vanastra. Workmen
have been busy all' summer
completing renovations and
additions at the Centre preparing
for the fall session. Visitors and
participants will be surprised to
find larger change rooms, a warm
inviting sauna, new meeting
rooms, kitchen banquet facilities.

to these improvements the board
have been able to procure.

Spokesmen for the Rec. Centre
Board say they have been more
than pleased with the acceptance
of their facility by Huron County

returned from a holiday at
Kincardine.
Mr. and Mrs. Keith Hillier of
London were Sunday guests with

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Corbett
accompanied by Mr. and Mrs.
Leslie Adams of Exeter (the
former Marjorie Morenz of
Exeter) attended the unveiling of
a plaque at Mitchell on Sunday at
the park which was named
"Howie Morenz Memorial
Gardens". The plaque was
erected by the Ontario Heritage
Foundation and an agency within
Ontario's Ministry of Culture and
Recreation, commemorating
"Howie Morenz, one of Canada's
most outstanding hockey
players". Mrs. Corbett, formerly
Hazel Morenz was a first cousin
to the famous hockey player.
Later they visited Mr. and Mrs.
Corbett' s son-in-law and
daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Chaffe and sons Jackie, Joey and
Tony at Mitchell.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kuhl have
sold their house in the village to
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Roberts of
Brantford. Mr. Roberts is with
the Goderich Detachment of the
O.P.P. The Kuhls will be moving
to a new home they are having
built in CAryndale on the south
edge of Kitchener,
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Whittaker
spent the weekend with Mr. and
Mrs. George Burgoin of
Leamington and helped them
move to Golden Farm Estate
which i,s near the Jack Miner Bird
SanCtuary in Kingsville. Because
there are several lagoons nearby
and it is a protected area, there
were flocks of wild geese landing
near the house. they didn't seem
to be very nervous of people,. and
were almost in the way when they
were moving in.
A special Rally Day sery ice
was held in Varna Church on
Sunday, when the Sunday school
students were promoted to their
new classes. The
superintendents, Mrs. ,Eric
Chuter ,,and Mrs. Tom Consitt
presented Robert Raikes
diplomas and seals to those
students who had good
attendance records.

Mrs. Hilda M. Payne
The Women's Institute met in
the Legion Hail on Wednesday
evening, September 10 for a
delicious pot-luck supper
convened by hostesses Hilda
Payne and Gladys Coleman.
Following this the meeting was
held with President Hilda Payne
presiding. Roll call was answered
by bringing an article from
another country and explaining
its use. Financial report showed a
balance of $102.64.
A letter of resignation from
Lois Shapter was read, and
accepted with regret. The group
decided to send a small gift to
show appreciation of her
participation in the Institute.
Joyce Pepper was installed as
vice-president and Marg. Ingram
as convenor of Education and
Cultural Activities in Lois' place.
Other correspondence dealt with
the County Rally on October 6 at
Belgrave, the Huron County
Historical Society meetings on
September 16 at Blyth and at
Crediton on October 15 and
letters of appreciation from Nan
Britton and Nancy and Barbara
McCurdy,
In other business,the members
agreed to serve coffee and cookies
at the re-opening of the Town
Hall and Library on September
25, voted for Joyce Pepper as
delegate to the London Area
Convention in St. Thomas on
October 15 and 16, and were
informed we had leaders for the
girls 4-H Club. The resolutions to
be discussed at St. Thomas were
discussed and voted on and final
plans made for the exhibit at the
F 3,11 Fairs,

Corbett conducted the program
which consisted of a sing-song,
accordion and piano selections by
Brenda Pepper and everyone was "Try giving yourself away".,

Prayer and the singing of "Take

, Audrey Joynt read three letters
from the adopted girl in Burma,
and the group gave the monthly
donation, and Christmas gift for
her. The offering was given and
dedicated by Audrey Christie.
Mildred Kyle had an
interesting study on "Missiion in
the home". Parents may practice
mission in the home by listening
and giving loving answers to
questions during family
discussions.
We should be better listener s,
so our family may feel confident,
Mrs. Kyle said. We may learn
from our children, when their
thoughts and opinions are
different from ours. Mrs. Christie
thanked Helen Goddard for being
pianist and all the others helping
with the meeting.

Julene Keys had an interesting
contest after which hostresses

Service at the. United Church
was conducted by The Rev. Don
Beck with Mrs. John Turkheim at
the organ. The sermon "Give
Him a Hearing!" was based on
John 7: 37-52 and the choir sang
the anthem, "I have decided to
follow Jesus". The Sunday School
met during the latter half of the
service.
Mrs. Nan Britton is a patient in
Stratford General Hospital again.

St. Paul's A.C.W. held their
autumn meeting at the" home of
Mrs. Windoveron Thursday
afternoon, September 11. The
Vice-Presidint Mrs. F. Forrest
opened the meeting with the
member's prayer followed by the
devotions from the Living
Message. The scripture reading
was taken from Luke 14 v 16-24 by
Annie Reid, Olive Pettygave the
meditation and all the members
took part in the Litany.
The minutes were read and
approved. A letter was read from
Ven. G.T.Kaye thanking the
group for the boxes of clothing
sent and from Mrs. Anderson, a
patient in St. Joseph's Hospital,
for the gloxinia.
The study book "Don't let
rese ntment ruin the family ",
was given by Helen Roberts. It
was decided that donations will
be gratefully received by next
meeting instead of • having a
bazaar and bake sale.The
meeting closed with a poem and
aprayer.

Unit 1, U.C.W. met on
Thursday, September 11 with
Audrey Christie presiding. After
her opening thought, the group
sang "Behold us Lord, a little
Space".' Her devotional theme
current event. Hazel Corbett read
an article on "Sisters".
Courtesy remarks were given
by Hazel Corbett and the meeting
closed with "The Queen".
