Brady 527-1456 after six New moped laws effective New legislation defining mopeds and their operation goes into effect immediately, minister of transportations and commun- ications John R. Rhodes announc- ed recently. The new legislation now makes it illegal for anyone under 16 years of age to operate a moped on Ontario roadways. It also makes it illegal for anyone to carry a passenger on a moped. Undersection 1 of the highway traffic act, „a motor assisted bicycle or moped must not weigh more than 120 lbs. Municipalities have also been given the authority to ban mopeds on roadways under their jurisdic- tion where the speed limit is SO miles per hour or more. Additional legislation requiring licences for both the moped and the driver and the wearing of helmets will become effective at a later date. McKillop Correspond'ent Mrs. Ed.
