therines' golf and Country Club
on Tuesday and Wednesday, July.
On Thursday night the visiting
Brewers beat Conroy 8-4, giving
theni a chance to catch first
place in the South Perth League.
Doug Leonhardt was the winning
pitcher.
Sunday's game was cancelled
because Avonton was unable to
field a team.
On Saturday at the Breslau
tournament the Brewers ad-
vanced to the 2nd round before
bowing out to Fergus in the 2nd
game by a 3-2 score. •A win
would have advanced the Brewers
to a semi-final and possibly a
final.
In the first game against Co-
nestoga, the Rules Committee
kept Conestoga from playing be-
cause of imported players and
the Brewers were awarded a 9-0
score.
Against Fergus the opposition
held a 2-0 score until the 4th
when Dennis Smith's bases empty
St Columban came from be-
hind t tie the St. Thomas Kick-
ers_ 2 - 2 last Sunday in-Seaforth.
St. Columban, started the
game slowly and found themsel-
ves behind 2 - 0 very early le
the game. Both goals were
scored by the talented St.Thomas
centre as he worked' himself
clear directly in front of the
net. St. Columban then settled
down and the rest of the half
was theirs as they had many
chances to score 'but the ball
just wouldn't go into the net.
In the second half a penalty
•kick was called on St. Thomas
and Larry Kale opened the scor-
ing for St. Columban making it
2- - 1. St. Columban pressed on
for the equalizer and with 5 mins.

The St. Coluniban soccer team
is organizing an old timere game
to be played some weekend in
the future. The old timers need
more players and anyone, inter-
ested in playing is asked to con-
tact Frank Murray.

• Seaforth mixed pairs furni-
ture tournament was cancelled on
Saturday due to the-weather and
a poor entry. *
Last Thursday night saw a
good turnout at our jitney and high
ladies were Hazel Hildebrand
with 2W plus 2 and Katie Phillips
1 W plus 4. For the men it was
Art Finlayson with 2W plus 8 and
Eric Matzold with 2W plus 8.
Tuesday, evening a little
shower held- the bowlers to just
one game. For the ladies'it was
Mary Finlayson 1 W plus 7 and
Mae Habkirk 1, W plus 5. For
the men it was Pat Smith of
California 1 W plus 14 and Cliff
Broadfoot 1 w plus 14. Mr. and
Mrs. Smith and baby daughter of
California are visiting with
Verda and Jack Sinclair and we
welcome them to our bowling
greens.
Jack and Donna Patterson took
part in a tournament in Woodstock
on•Saturday and also at Ingersoll
on Sunday last. • They were the
high two-game winner in this
event. They were tied for first
place going into the last game
and were beaten by one shot by
Larry McClellan of St. Marys
and wife.
Larry has 136en bowling very
well this year and we noticed by
the London paper he has ad-
vanced into the third 'round of
Provincial finals in the colts
division.
One pair entered men's dou-
bles in Clinton last Wednesday
and hope to go to Exeter Mends
doubles this Wednesday, weather
permitting.
Saturday evening will be

Wingham ladies are holding a
ladies trebles Wednesday, Aug.

veniles won their second straight
with a 10-4 win over Exeter.
Red-hot Jerry Feeney stroked
an RBI single scoring Bill O'Shea
who also singled, . to even the
score at one apiece in the third.
Three innings later Feeney
crashed a bases loaded triple to
provide the margin of victory.
Feeney, who has been criticized
in the past for his lack of hustle,
went 3 for 5 and raised his team
high batting average to near .400.
Gary Eisler (3-0) scattered
,eight hits and struck out 14 for
his second complete game victory

Sunday August the fifth, the Clinton 'Raceway
will feature Pre Centennial Pace for a ,,purse of
$1,000. five hundred dollars of which has been
donated by the town of Clinton. ,.we know that
secretary Frank Cook will have a real good line up of
horses for this race.
During. the past week there have been two claims
at the local tracks. 'On Wednesday evening Charles
Mathers of R.R.2; Goderich haltered Centennial Bob
from Cecil Crandon of St. Marys out of the tenth
race . On Sunday afternoon at Clinton W. G. Bradley
Goderich claimed Mudette out of the fourth race from
Robert Taylor of Granton.
