Belle Bars was the winner in the ninth race. Miss
belle Bars is owned by Fred Fowler of Londesboro
and the driver was Prank MacDonald. The time
for the mile was 2.05 and the pay off was $8.40. In
the fifth race ,at London True Personality was out of
the money Vednesday night. Thursday night et
London Shadow Bars was fourth In the fourth race.
Also Thursday night ilylyn Mary was out of the
money in the eighth race. Friday night at the London
oval Arctic John was second in the sixth race.
Arctic John is owned - by Larry Dale of Seaforth.
Saturday night• at the London track Single Johnnie
owned and driven by John Muir of Seaforth was second
in the ttim race. Miss Belle Bars was fourth in the
ninth race a'l' the 'London Area-Saturday. 'The mile
was in a fast 2.02. At the London track Dave Wall
is the leader in all departments with 88 starts.
Dave has 31 wins, U seconds, 15 thirds for 379
points and an average of .479.
At Elmira Friday evening Johnny Pull was a
winner with Wayne DUpee on the hike.
We were sorry to hear that True Time owned by
William Bennett was found dead the other morning.
Race fans will remember this fine pacing mare a
couple of years ago when Bill won the driving
honours at 'the Clinton Raceway.
Clinton Raceway swinge into action for the summer
meet on Sunday, July first with their 'usual fine ten
race card. We attended the qualifying races Sunday
and the track appeared to be In good condition for the
, start of the season. Frank Cook is the secretary this
year.
The Woodstock ,Raceway will start their season
on the third of July with Tuesday night racing until
the second of Octo6er
There will be racing at Exeter on Wednesday
afternoon, July the fourth.

our intertown trebles jitney.

It is nice to see Thelma out
bowling again this year after her
unfortunate accident last year. In
second place was Jean Lunn with

Lillian • Patterson of Wingham
with 2 w plus 17 agg. 24.
Last Thursday evening saw a
good turnout for our mixed jitney.

of the first and appeared to be

counted four-iiine on-three hits
and two walks to open out a
4-1 lead.
The next three innings were
scoreless as both teams played
heads-up ball including a nice
double play by the TeacherS. In
the fifth 'inning the Teachers
moved back into contention with
two runs on two hits as Doug
Sharder and Gord MacLean
scored . The Teachers then
blanked the Mainstreeters in
their half of the inning to trail
4-3 after five full innings.
The sixth frame saw Main-
street count once as they scored
on Bob Beuttenmillerts solo home
run to open up a two run lead
going into the final inning. In
the seventh the Teachers 'evened
the score at five apiece as Howard
James and Steve Hook scored
for the bookworms. Mainstreet
then showed their' depth as they
scored the winning run on Ray
Anstett's double to remain the
only undefeated team.
The other. contest Monday
night saw the Village upset the
Firemen at the Lions' Park by
a 25-11 score.

at Ingersoll on Sunday, Jack and
Donna Patterson were among the
prizewinners. They reported a
most enjoyable day.
This Saturday evening, June
30th at '7:30 p.m. sharp will be
men's pairs here at the local
greens. All men who can bowl

as possible.
Wednesday afternoon, the
ladies will be bowling at 1:30
p.m. Our invitation is extended

soils and crop specialist, the
alfalfa weevil and the cereal
leaf beetle are making their
presence felt in Perth and Huron
counties. At least one in ten
of the alfalfa fields are at or
near the 'economic damage
level" Mr. Lynch said and added
that at this level of infestatiori

head) are reddish-orange.

hagen Brewers ' defeated the
Avonton CBs by a score of 4-1
in South Perth Fastball.
The game played in Brod-
hagen, featured home runs by
Dennis Smith and Paul Maedel..
Doug Leonhardt pitched the entire
game for the Brewers and struck
out a total of eight batters for
the victory.
on June 22 the Brewers de-
feated the New Hamburg Con-
cords in New Hamburg by a score
of 11 - 4.
Doug Leonhardt and Dave
Hannon shared the pitching for
the Brewers and-sturkc out nine
batters.
Al French hit a three-run
homer for the Brewers.
New Hamburg still leads the B
division with an 8 - 3 win, lost
record and Brodhagen is in
second place with a 7 - 3 record

Baseball Club picked up their
second win of the season to
bring their record to 2 wins and
1 loss. This was the second
win over Exeter this year but
this win was not as easy as the
last one (19-12). It took Sea-
forth an extra inning to defeat
Exeter by a score of 4-3. Gary
Eisler (1-0) in his first game
for, the Merchants as he allowed
3 runs on 7 hits, 8 base on
balls, 2 hit by pitch. Eisler'
also struck out 10 Exeter bat-
ters in his ten innings on the
mound. The Exeter pitching
staff gave up 4 runs on 5 hits,
6 base on balls, 1 hit by
pitch. There were 8 strikeouts

to Exeter's 12. The first inning
was scoreless for Seaforth but
not for Exeter as they picked
up 1 run on 1 hit and 1 base
on balls. The second, third and
fourth innings' were scoreless
for both teams. The fifth saw
the. merchants score three runs
in the top of the inning to take
the lead 3-1 only to see the
Exeterites tie it up in their half
of the inning. The sixth, seventh,
eighth and ninth innings were
scoreless. The first batter
for Seaforth in the tenth, ground-
ed out. The second, Steve South-
gate, picked up a hit and advanced
on another base hit by Gary
Eisler after Gerry Feeney had
struck out. Southgate finally
scored on a wild pitch from the
Exeter pitcher. In the bottom of
the tenth, Gary Eisler held the
opposition off the scoreboard by
striking out 2 of the three bat-
ters put out. The Seaforth hits
were got by , - Steve South-
gate (2)., Gerry Feeney, Gary
Eisler and Don Nicholson. The
run scorers were: Steve South-

the seventh as Rick Fortune and
Moe Huard• provided the batting
power. In their final thrust
the horsemen fell slightly short
as they managed three runs
before the final out but ended
up one run short to give the
Duffers the win. Ron Beuerman
was the winning pitcher giving
up eleven hits while his team-
mates, collected seventeen hits
off the pitching of Wayne Lots
and reliever, Jack Mcllwain.

St. Columban
loses 1-0
St. Columban and Marconi
, played a close defensive game
last Sunday with Marconi wming
up with a 1-0 win.
The first half of the game
was played very .cautiously with
few offensive threats by either
team. The score indicated the
play as at the end of the first
half, it was 0-0.
The second half of the game
was similar to the first until
marconi opened up the game
with a goal which was scored on
a penalty shot, St. Columban
goalie, Tom Murray, having little
or no chance on the play. After
the goal was scored, St. Colum-
ban tried desperately to tie the
game but the Marconi defence
held up as they won by a 1-0
score.
St. Columban's next game will
be held In London July 8th at
5 p.m. when they meet London
White Eagle.
Tickets are aeallable .from
members of the soccer team for
a cabaret dance in Brodhagen
on July 27th.
