In scanning the Goderich Signal-Star we note that P.U.C.
Manager, Dave Rolston, is considering a recommendation
at their next meeting, that a reward be posted for information '
leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone who turns on
fire hydrants unnecessarily. Last Monday evening three
hydrants were opened and left on by persons unknown..
Goderich Police Chief Fred Minsball said he was disgusted
by the stupid behaviour, adding that there was a "Place
in the Ontario Hospital for anyone who would"do a thing
like that." - - - The Dominion Road fachinery Company
honoured members of their Quarter Century Club last
week to a dinner and each member received a clock in,
recognition of their 25 years' service. - - - Mr. and Mrs.
Arthur L. Tichborne, Goderich, marked their golden wedding
anniversary recently. They have one son, (Bill) at home,
two daughters'', Viola (Mrs. George Bell) of Bayfield and
Dorothea, (Mrs. Donald McArter) of Brussels and five
grandchildren. - - - Wayne Rau scored four goals against
Kincardine last Friday for the Goderich Sailors. They
defeated Kincardine 13 - 4 and on Sunday shut-out walkerton
9 - 0.
The Mitchell Advocate reports that the final papers
were signed between the committee of Ritz Lutheran Villa
and Logan Contracting Co. of Stratford for the erection of
this home for senior citizens of all denominations, to be
located on Highway 23 in Logan Township, just north of
Mitchell. The contract price is $1,055,973.00. - - - Arthur
Ball, son of Mrs. Bruce Ingram, 'Mitchell, was killed in a
plane crash on December 1st. The pilot was also killed.
Both, men were employed by Reindeer Airways out of
Inuvik, Northwest Territories. Inuvik is 130 miles inside
the Arctic Circle. - - - Mrs. Amos Thiel, who had re-
corded council happenings for the past 30 years for area
dailies, was honoured by council members at their regular
meeting. Mrs. Thiel was presented with a watch pendant.,,
Ac'eprding to the Blyth Standard the local council has
issued a warning to snowmbbilers following several com-
plaints. - The snowmobilers were particularly warned not
to operate their machines during the hours of church
services or after midnight.
Zurich and district Chamber of Commerce, according
to the Zurich Citizens-News, held their annual Ladies'
Night with about 110 present for the dinner. Guest speaker
for the occasion •was Mr. Murray Turner, secretary-
manager of the Waterloo Chamber of Commerce. The
subject of his address was: "Education - Knowledge or
Common Sense." - - - Mr. and Mrs. Fred Haberer marked
their 50th wedding anniversary last Saturday.
According ' to the Lucknow Sentinel, Dr. D. R. Allen,
Bruce County Medical Health officer, has warned the resi-
dents of Ripley not to use the water supply until it has been
treated since tests showed it was contaminated. As a
precautionary measure it was recommended that all waters'
from the Ripley Water System, used for drinking p'urposes,
either be boiled or treated with chlorine. - - - Lucknow
Lions Club Swimming Pool Fund now stands at $25,000. '
The Lucknow and District"Horticultural Society has donated
$500 to be used towards landscaping the pool. - - - John
Wallace, Kingsbridge, marked his 87th birthday Sunday.
According -to the Clinton News-Record an error was
made in last week's paper when it announced that the
Club'Vanastra Optimist Clinton was the first Optimist
Club in Huron County. we were wrong. Seaforth has
claim to that fame. Sorry about that Seaforth,, - -
The Clinton Planning Board has drawn upClinton's Planning
Act and Map. The kit is being mailed out now and the
Town Fathers request all citizens receiving it should study
it and if there are any complaints they are to be mailed to the
Town Clerk by December 28th. - - Clinton public School •
and Bill's Billiards and Bowling were entered recently. $35
cash and $60 worth of cigarettes were removed from. the
latterr and minor damage reported at Public School. - - -
The Hayfield•Boat Club held their annual Christmas Party.
The club has a membership of 70. Dean Curtis, London,
was recently elected Commodore for 1973. Retiring Com-
modore is Ted Davies of Clinton who received the Charter
in the spring of 1972 for the new club. Members come from
all over Western Ontario.
The Wingham Advance-Times reports that the Mary
Hastings Club celebrated its 25th anniversary with a Christ-
mas party last Tuesday. Fifteen past presidents attended
the affair and some 60 members were presentfbr the dinner.
Vandals were at work again over the week end at the
Teeswater Town Hall, according to the News. Between -
11 p.m. and 3 a.m., Saturday and Sunday, banisters were
ripped off the walls on the stairways going to the second
floor. A plate glass window in a downstairs door and ash
'trays were broken. - - - Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Armstrong
of Culross opened their home Friday evening-When friends
and relatives gathered to honor Mr. and Mrs. Herbert
Evans on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary.
The Exeter Times-Advocate reports that on December
25th, Christmas Day, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Eckstein, Dash-
wood will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary at their

show soccer interest
The Huron County Minor
Soccer Association heard an
encouraging report at their
recent meeting regarding regis-
tration for the proposed County
wide league to be set up in 1973.
To date nine communities had,
signified' their intention to field
teams and had conducted
prelitninary registration to find
an indication of interest. Two
