AUBURN A report from Queen's Park BY MURRAY GAUNT, M.P.P.
(HURON -BRUCE)
Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Boyle
were in London on Sunday to
see Monsignor Phalen who was
in St. Joseph's Hospital. He
is now visiting his sister Mrs.
Laura Lane.
C,W.L. Meeting was held
Tuesday night in the Parish Hall
with 14 members present. Mrs.
Franklin /Present was in the
chair, minutes were read by Mrs.
Cyril Boyle and Mrs. Van Aaken
took roll call. Mrs. Neil Staple-
ton gave the financial report.
A collection of $3. per family
was collected instead of a Bake
Sale in Novema-mr. A gift of
money was given to Father pent-
Inger and Father Phalen.
An exchange of gifts among
the ladies was held and baskets
will be sent to shut-ins at christ-
mas.
A turkey bingo is being held
in the Parish Hall Friday night.
Mr. Joe Foran and Leo at-
tended Orangeville races Sunday.
The youth club of St. Augustine
are going out carol-singing
Christmas Eve and also are
putting up the Christmas Crib
and trees at church.
Ontario's welfare. payments
will increase next month for about
half those now in the rolls.
Rene Brunelle, Community
and Social Services Minister,
indicated Ontario will ad $16,
million to, its welfare expendi-
tures commencing January 1st,
1973, to give blind, disabled,
the elderly and separated
mothers with children an average
10% increase in their welfare
payments.
The increase will affect 3/4
of the 82,000 single people and-
families now on faintly bene-
fits, the welfare scheme ad-
ministered by the province.
The Government does not have
any immediate plans to increase
the rates for people on general
welfare assistance, the munici-
pally administered scheme; the
latest figures released by the
province show a caseload of
57,600.
The committee on social de-
velopment will recommend a
slightly milder version of the
legislation controlling denturibts
to the Legislature for third and
final reading,
The committee's clause by
clause analysis of the controver-
sial legislation yesterday pro-
duced a number of amendments
that will make the bill more
palatable to the denturists, al-
though none of these constitutes
a major victory.
• The most significant change
in the legislation was an amend-
ment that while still requiring
denture therapists to perform
work inside thp mouth in a
dentist's office, would allow them
to do mechanical construction of
the dentures in a"place of their
choosing.,
The previous wording would
have required them to work en-
tirely in a dentist's office.
Previously the Government
announced it plans to amend the
Dentistry Act to ensure that there
will be enough dentists providing
loutcost dentures to meet the
need.
The amendments will also
lesislate the cost of such den-
tures - $180 now with any future t,10
increases requiring the consent
of the Cabinet.
Premier William Davis said
this week he will put forward leg-
islation compelling political par-
ties to disclose contributions
made by companies or institut-
ions such as trade unions, a
reversal of a strong stand he
took against disclosure three
weeks ago.
The Premier said he has
ordered a Commission to con-
sider the whole area of reform
of the present methods of party
financing in Ontario.
Mr. Davis made the state-
ment just before a non-confi-
dence opposition motion based
on the Fidinam affair, leek of
reform on election spending and
redistribution of ridings.

Two men had sat at a
restaurant counter for two hours,
talking and drinking coffee. Fin-
ally the exasperated waitress
handed each of them a check for
$3.00.
"Wowl" said one. "You -
mean this is for just having
coffee?"
"No", replied the waitress,
"It's a parking ticket."
