40th wedding
anniversary
• Over 80 relatives and friends
gathered at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Harold Parker recently and
surprised them on their 40th wed-
ding anniversary. They were
recipients of many gifts.
The lunch was served from
table centered with a three-
storey anniversary cake, candles"
lb, in candelabra and floral arrange-
ments.

Mitchell, Goderich, Grand Bend,
Oakville, Brampton, Hensall, Ex-
eter and Stratford.
KINNETTE MEETING
The Hensall Kinettes met.
Wednesday evening at the home.
of Mrs. Belva Fuss. The date
set for the fall rummage sale
is November 3. A letter was
received from the child over-
seas that the club sponsor, and
a Christmas gift is being sent
to her. The Kinettes will be
contributing to a bake table at
a Bazaar in London in November,
to help raise funds for Cystic
Fibrosis, and will also be sell-
ing Cystic Fibrosis Christmas
cards.
4-H Club Meeting
The HenSall 4-H Club met
at the cottage of Mrs. Bill Fuss,
last Tuesday evening for a pic-
nic supper. Mrs. Fuss demon-
strated shishk bobs which were
eaten by club embers. It was
decided that the name for the
club would be e ,,Roaring
Twenties."
Miss Marie Shantz, Oshawa,
and Miss Helen Gibson, Tor-
onto, -were weekend guests with
Mr. 'and Mrs. James McAllister.

Bayfield Lions Club donated $200 to the Scout group. - - -
Mr. and Mrs. John Moddijonge, Exeter, will receive a
bronze medal, certificate: and a cheque for $500 from
the Carnegie Hero Commission of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The posthumous bravery award on behalf of their daughter,
Geraldine, who displayed extreme bravery in attempting
*to save the life of her friend, Janet Guenther. Both girls
lost their lives,,,during a South' diuron District High Schbol
camping trip.
Froin the Mitchell Advocate we gather that 'approval
has been received by the committee in charge of the
proposed Ritz Lutheran Villa, a new home for the aged in
Mitchell.
'The Teeswater News reports that the Lions Club will
purchase hockey sweaters and stockings for the Pee Wee
hockey team and also tables and chairs for the Arena.
• Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Pfile, Dashwood, marked their
golden wedding anniversary recently according to the
• Exeter Times-Advocate. - - -'Mrs. Lavtna Keener marked'
her 87th birthday recently and Mrs. E. C. Appleton ob-
served her 81st birthday at Exeter this week. - - -Jacob
Kaschper, Lucan; 37-year-old designer of three racing
shells used by' Canadian oarsmen in the Olympic
games, olies his craft on the south edge of the village.
He flew to Germany and visted the Canadian•crews. The
Lucan builders shell proved superior to all others airing
the Olympic trials in Canada and for this reason were
taken to Munich.
The Blyth Standard reports' that Mr. and Mrs. George
Walker, Belgmve , marked their 50th wedding anniver-
sary recently.

and Mrs. Walter Forster,' near Ripley, according to the
Lucknow Sentinel, and during the happy oceasion their
home caught tire and was destroyed in about 20 minutes."

50 year jewels were presented to long time members of
Huro.4 Chapter 89, Order of 'the Eastern Star when Mrs.
T. A. Currie, PDDGM, of the Huron Chapter presented the
pins to Mrs. Elizabeth Fuller and Miss Myrtle Beecroft,
formerly of New London, Conn., a resident of-Wingham since
1964 whe also joined the Lodge in 1922.
According to the Goderich Signal-Star and following the
review of more than 25 applications and interviews with
three of the more qualified applicant's, the 'Goderich Re-
creation Committee agreed to recommend to Council the
hiring of D. W. Dymond as Goderich Recreation DireCtor.
Traffic was slowed down for a few minutes last meek
when a residence was moved along No. 8 Highway onto
Main Street North. The building, purchased in Dublin by
James Hogg, was moved to a lot he recently purchased on
James Street. Mr. Hogg and his sister, Miss Jennie Hogg,
are moving to Seaforth when work on their new home is

The• thank offering general
meeting of the Hensall U.C.W.
was held ',Monday evening in the
auditorium of the Church. Mrs.
McAllister presided and wel-
comed everyone. Piano and organ
duets with 'Eric Luther on the
piano , and, Mrs. Murray Keyes
on the organ throughout the meet-
ing were very much, enjoyed as
were two solos rendered by Mrs.
Shirley Luther. Mrs. Cliff Brit-
ton very capably gave the
devotional using the theme
"Thanksgiving is Thariksliving,"
and gave a quotation said by
Stanley Jones "It's not what hap-
pens to Os that' matters, it's
what we do with what happens
that counts". Mrs. Earl Rowe
read portions of scripture per-
taining to Thanksgiving from
Psalms 107. Mrs.. McAllister
conducted the business and re-
minded everyone that.. the end
9f November is' the end of the
year for offering for 1972 for
the U.C.W. Mrs., McAllister in-
troduced the guest speaker for
-the evening Dr. Rodger Whitman,
' from Seaforth, who showed slides
on Africa and gave everyone an
interesting talk 'on Crossroads
Africa and also Africa to-day.
