All seemed to enjoy it very much
and there appeared to be some
very promising youpg bowlers
among the group.
In a ladles doubles tournament
at Goderich on Wednesday a rink
of Seaforth ladies, Ella- Munro
and Jean Lunn placed second.
The girls had one perfect end
gaining an eight count.
On Saturday evening last Jean
Lunn ,and Mae Habkirk , holders
of the ladles challenge pins were
challenged by Ida Close and Mae
Watterworth but Jean and • Mae
are still victorious, We have
not heard of any challenges lately
among the men.
Tuesday evening August 1st
saw twenty-eight bowlers out and
the weather ideal. High for the
ladies was Janet Ford 2 w plus
15 with Edna Bell 2nd, 2 w plus
13. For, the men it was 'John
patterson 1st 2 W plus 13 'with
Dr. P. Brady 2nd. 2w plus 5.
Several of our bowlers hope
to take part in out of town tourna-
ments this week so good bowling
to all.
Another'upset` took place
Tuesday evening at the Lions
Park . when Carel Raeside de-
feated Helma Wright's team.
There was no final score re-
• ported at press time.
At the Rec Joan Pinder
defeated Nora Eckert's team with
a score 24 - 17 and it was
evident the pressure of the sea-
son is begliming to show.

the annual furniture tournament
at the Seaforth greens. Taking
first place was the Goderich
entry of Lee Ryan and George
Allison with 3W plus 25 (50);
2nd. place went to another Goder-
-ich rink skipped by Earl Allison
with 3 W plus 15 (50). Third
place was Bill Brown and Harold
Connell, Seaforth with 2W plus
28 (99) and 4th was Art Finlay-
son and. Eric Matzold, 2 W plus
28 (54.)
Our r local jitneys are very
popular and last Thursday night
winners were ladies Ella Mun-
ro, 2 W plus 17 (27); Hazel
Hildebrand, 2 plus 14 (25)

Last Thursday's encounter be,

ing g as the Teachers edged
the D fers by a 9 - 'I margin.
Both teams played excellent
ball and both scored once in the
first frame. The Teachers then
added to their total as. they out-
scored the Dmittersin each of the
next three innings to open a
5 - 1 gap at the end of four
innings. The fifth inning was
all Texaco as they narrowed 'the
difference to one run. In the
sixth however,T, two costly errors-,
'allowed the Teacters to add 4
more to their total and open, a
.9.- 6 lead.
The Duffers struggled for one
run in the seventh but couldn't
even count as the Bookworms
took ate win .

Beuerman was on the mound for

9 - 5 at Brodhagee last Thurs-
day, July 27.
Kirkton started the scoring
In the 1st inning as John Rodger
batted in a run. The second
inning was scoreless-. In the
3rd inning Kirkton scored again
as John Rodger, Murray Glan-
ville and Barry Thomson all
scored runs. The Brewers were
still unable to, muster any bat-
ting . power. Not until the 4th..
inning did the Brewers get rol-
ling as Dennis Pepper hit a-run
in making the score 4 - 1. In
the 5th inning Murray Glanville
scored another run for Kirkton
making the score. 5 -1. In the
6th the Brewers and Kirkton
each scored a run leaving things
unchanged. The 7th was score-
less. In the 8th Merle Hoegy
hit a ,home run for the Brewers
with .`2 on bases to make
the score 6 - 5 for Kirkton. But
the Brewers just couldn't hold
Out in the 9th as Kirktun scored
three unanswered runs making
the final score 9 - 5.

was Merle Hoegy's fly dive in
centre fibld with the bases loaded
to give' the Brewers a. chance.
The Breefers are now in 2nd
place In "B" Div. Their record
of 13 wins - 7 losses gives them
a total of 26 pts . Tavistock is
in 1st place with 28 pts but the
Brewers have a game .in hand.

were never really threatened as

Stratford Conroy Memorials in an
exhibition game Wednesday, July
26th.
Stratford started the scoring
in the 3rd when they scored g
runs. The 4th and the 5th were
scoreless. Stratford scored
again in'the 6th making the score
3 - 0. The 7th, 8th and 9th in-
nings were all scoreless making

There was a large crowd in
attendance and the game was
'exciting all the way despite the
home teams loss. This maybest

The late game' scheduled for
the Optimist park was postponed
to a later' date as the 'Mr! Club
could not manage to field atearn.
The game will be rescheduled to
Thursday, Aug. 3rd, (tonight)
weather permitting.
The Lion's Park was the scene
of plenty of action when in the
early encounter the Mechanics,
edged the Teachers by a narrow
8 - 5 margin. After a scoreless
first inning, the Motormen took
a 1 - 0 second inning lead on.
John Munro's triple followed by
a single by Dave Schenk. The
third inning was again scoreless
but the fourth saw the Mechanics
open a big margin as they banged
across 3 more runs. 'The fifth
Inning again was all Mechanics
as they openedyp a n 8 - 0 lead.
The Teachers gamely fought back
with two runs in the sixth and 3
more in the seventh but couldn't
manage to overcome the big dif-

inning, however, after being held
scoreless for 5 innings Rick
Leonhart hit a home run to break
the tie and win the game for the.

This was an..excellent fan
game and brought out the best
crowd of the year. Tempers
flared and it was close all the
way.

be a. real cliff hanger when the
Firemen edged -out the Legion
in the last inning to. nip the Gold-
en Bombers 15 - 14. The Legion
opened strong taking a quick
3 - 0 head in the first inning only
to see the Firemen hit for 12
big runs in the second to take a.
12 - 7 lead.
The ,third inning saw each
'team score once. Then, the
Legion started to come back as
they added 2 runs in the fourth
while holding_the Firemen score-
less, then they notted the count
at 13 apiece in the fifth. In the
sixth !muting the Legion nine
gained a narrow one rune lead.
Then again as last week the bot-
tom of the seventh proved too
much when Don Hulley hit a
bases loaded home run to give
the Firemen the victory.
Gary Eisler suffered the loss
on the mound for the Legion while
Jim Glew and Bob Wilson shared
pitch ingduties for the Firemen.'
Action this week will see the
Turf' Club' and Firemen -meet in
the early game at the Optimist
Park while the Villagers and
Mainstreet meet in the late game.
The Lion's Park will haVe the
Teachers and Legion meeting in
the early game while the Mechan-
ics and Texaco meet inthe night-
cap.

exhibition game between the
- London Central Chevs. and the
Brodhagen Brewers at Brod--
hagen.
The Brewers opened with- two
runs in the first inning and two
in the second but to no avaiLas
London brought in 4 runs in the
second. In the 3rd inning the
Brewers brought in 4 more runs
and London in an'effort to salvage
the game, relieved pitcher Barry
Wright and replaced him for
Ron Palter. In the 4th inning
London scored 3 runs whilehold-
ing the Brewers scoreless. The

Brewers 8. The 5th, the 6th and ,
