4 ' The Seaforth District High School leaves Thursday on the first leg of its
trip to Germany.
The students have been busy since early last falraccumulating dollars
with which to make the trip. One of the last in a long series of fund raising
events was a recent fun day at the school when everybody pitched lin,to ensure
the event was a success. The program included a bake sale, novelty bOoth and
a tricycle race in which staff members competed., • •
A feature of the day was the presentatioh to the group of a scroll by three
members of the staff of Premier William Davis who has asked the students to
be emissaries of good will -when they visit Lahr, West Germany.
Claire Westcott himself a graduate of S.D.H.S. and now special assistant to
Premier Davis had intended presenting the scroll to the students•.but at the last
minute was unable to make the trip.
The document, to be delivered by hand .to “Herr Qber Burger Meister" -
Dr'. Paul Brucker, the mayor of Lahr - expresses greetings from the premier
and `noPes for goodwill among countries.
The, scroll was presented to Vicki Miller, president of -the geography club
'and to John Ball, head 'of the school's geography department, who with his
wife is accompanying the students.
The trip will '-eost -$225 per student for air fare•and $75 for incidentals
with each of the students contributing approximately two-thirds ,of this amount.
The ,balance MS-been raised through the various events the students sponsored.
-Accommodation for the students We in L hrf Germanys is being arranged
by flarry Scott, who was on staff at the Seaforth high school until last June, and
is now teaching in the Lahr Senior School for Canadian Forces children.
He is working on plans to arrange accommodation either on the Cana4ian
Force's Base or imbillets with students in his. school.
