Set Hog Deficiency Regulations The regulations for deficiency payments 'on hogs, call far the amount of the ,deficierypayment to bring the annual price for 1971 up to 80% of the previous10-year average price for hogs according to 'Huron M.P. R.ff.Mekinley. It has now been established that 80% of the 10 year average pre- vious to,1971 was $24.14 perjaun- ' dred.', The 1971 average price has been established at only 47 * cents per. hundred below 80% of the iO-year average. Hog producers have made. strong recommendations to the government that in view . of the higher costs' 'of production plus the lower prices encounteredbe- cause 9f the American surtax, the regular formula should not be followed Put that there should be considerably higher deficiency payments made for 1971. This matter is now under consideration by the Minister of Agriculture and the Cabinet. ' A , HENSALL UNITED CHURCH ANNUAL MEETING The annual supper and Con- gregational meeting of--liensall United Church was held in the Fellowship Hall, Wednesday evening. Followinga supper served by the U.C.W., Edison Forrest paid tribute to Rev. and Mrs. Beek and a' token of appreciation was presented by Mrs. Jack Drysdale. Rev.Beck read scripture from St. Luke versed 37,- 53, with the theme of his message being "See my hands" followed by prayer. The business portion of the evening- was chaired by Mr. Beck. The Life and Work of the congre- gation was appraised and set forth, and reviewed in the annual report booklet. The, proposed budget for 1972 was presented • by Mrs. Jack Drysdale, Chairman of the Stewards* Committee,..- and accepted. Setrerarevents have been held in the honor of Margaret Ann (Peggy) Stretton, bride-elect who was married to Brian Harold Campbell, R.R.#1, Exeter, on Saturday. Neighbours and friends gathered in the Legion Hall January 20, in her hcnor. Kathy Fuss; Mrs. Ernie Davis and Kay Davis conducted contests and Melanie -Veal and Susan Stretton were the prize winners. CARMEL PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH The C.O.C. of Carmel Pres- ' byterian Church met on Sunday morning. - Leader Beatrice Thompson opened the meeting and the roll call was answered with six members present. The offering was taken and it was. emphasized to the children that the offering would go to buy Bibles and hymn books for boys and girls in Nigeria. Leader- Mrs. Robert Taylor introduced the- 'study on Africa - this months being on Nigeria. A story of a Nigerian boy and how a missionary helped him - was told by Mrs. Taylor. BOWLING PARTY Hensall.United Church Adult -Fellowship Group Bowling party has been rescheduled and now will be held on February 5. Mark 56th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Roy Consitt, Hensall, • celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary quietly 'at their residence on Saturday. Visitors for the evening were the couple's two sons, Jack and Ray and their families, Mrs. Farqiiar and Mrs. Kaiser, sisters of Mr. and Mrs. Consitt. Many happy congratulations were received throughout the day by telephone and many calls were made from the neighbours con- gratulating them on the happy event. 82nd BIRTHDAY PARTY A small birthday party and tea was held Friday at the home of Mrs. Edna Paterson, in honor of her 82nd birthday. Mrs. Pearl , Errat, Mrs. George"Thompson, Miss Rena Stephenson, Mr,os. R. Boyce and Mrs. Eric Lilther entertained during the afternoon. A birthday cake espedially made by Mrs. Boyce for the event was enjoyed. KINETTE MEETING The Hensall Kinettes met Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Ian McCallum. Guest for the evening was Mrs. Dean McKnight from the-Exeter Kinette Club. Following a hockey game on February 6, between St,Michael's. College and the Hensall All- Stars, the Kinettes will cater to a meal for the players. A silent auction was held for entertainment. Raffle was won by Mrs.Jack Bettke. The Kinettes canvassed the village on Mondayjor the Ability Fund. . The AM11241 Meeting of the Brucefield United Church was held at Kippen Church on Sunday afternoon following a. poi luck lunch after the morning service. Rev. P. Packman chaired the meeting and Mel Graham was secretary,. ..- Reports were read by the different organizations showing a s,uccessful year despite the lack of a new church building. It is hoped the new, church will be opened in early Spring. Three Stewards retired this year, namely John Moffatt, Alex Townsend aed Robert Fothering-• ham. Mr. Fotheringham was r,- elected and the others were suc- ceeded by Jack McGregor and Robert Broadfoot. Mrs. V. Har- greaves was elected as repre- ,.sentative to the Steward Board from the U.C.W. replacing Mrs. Berry who had served for two years. The regular Monday -afternoon old tyme music session was held with the accompaniment provided by Norman Speir, Mrs. Mary Taylor and Miss Della Peart. On Wednesday the Kinnettes were on hand to serve tea to the residents and sing a few songs after the luncheon. During the program a wheelchair -was preSented to the home by the Kinnettes. Mr. Archibald accepted it and thanked the ladies on behalf of the residents. Thursday's Family Night program presented by Jim Laurie of Blyth was a very great success as far as the 120 residents-in attendance were concerned. Being Bobby Burns Night the program was, of course, Scottish. The show began with Mrs. Adelaine Campbell and Mr. Laurie singing twOduets, "Flow Gently Sweet Afton" and "When You and I Were YoungMaggie". The Wharton Family . namely, Hugh and James Wharton,. Sylvia .and Sherrie Bremer, played a medley of numbers including, "You Take the Highroad", "Buffalo Gal" and "Put on Your Old .Grey Bonnett". James then sang "Nobody's Child" and following thiS Jame's and Sherri sang the French 'seng "Dominique". Avon Toll was the next performer and'she very capably danced the Highland Fling. Angela Duttman on her accordian played "Popcorn Polka" a.,;:,..."Grand Old Medley". Mrs. Adeline Campbeeturned this time by herself - to sing "Mary Argyle", and "I'll Take You Home Kathleen". Bill Hicks treated us to three saxophone solos, "Peek-a- boo", "The Waltz You Saved For Me" and "You're the Only Star in My Blue Heaven". Jim Laurie did two numbers which one could probably hear in a Scottish pub. The songs were "She's Ma Daisy" and "She's the Lass for Me." The Whartons gave an encore performance consisting - of "Life is Like a Mountain" Railway", "Telephone To Glory" and "Anchor in Jesus". Jim Laurie got back to the lighter side again when he sang "I Love a Lassie" and "Stop Your Tickling, Jack". The famous Scottish sword dance was next with Avon Tell the-entertainer. Accordian music by Angela Duttman once again filled the audiforium and she played '"Scotland the Brave",, and "Spanish Eyes", Bill Hicks and his saxaphene returned to provide us with "Easter parade", "The World is 'Waiting for the Sunrise" and "Now Is the Hour". . One person not mentioned yet who did a very capable Job was • Mrs. Grace Brown who was the pianist throughout the program.. The evening was brought to an end • in a very appropriate and practical manner by the joining of hands and the singing of "Auld Lang Syne". • 10 i 4 News- of CONSTANCE respondent . Mrs.Joyce Pepper The annual congregational meeting and pot luck dinner was held in Chiselhurst United Church' on.Thursday afternoon. Rev. Beck chaired the busin- ess portion of the meeting. Ste- ards retiring in 1971 were Ross Sararas, Mrs. Jack Brintnell and Mrs. Gerald Glenn. These were re-appointed and - will retire in 1976. The Life and Work of the congregation was appraised and reviewed in th. annual re- port booklet. Harpld Parker and Clarence Coleman were .re-appointed auditors for 1972 and Mary Kinsman was again appointed re- cording secretary' of the congre- gation. The congregation reported that they had had a very succes- sful year.
