TV VIEWS The last eight Democratic conventions were highlighted on CBS last week prior to the 64 nomination. Republicans re- ceived identical treatment prior to the convention. The program started approp- riately wit ha brief segment of the nomination of Johnson for V-P. With Robert Trout as commentator, they showed ex- cellent scenes from 1932 to 1960. F.D.R's nomination of '32 was interesting, and here CBS was kind to NBC Who had all the microphones in frcmlt of the nominee. It looked ed like CBS wasn't there. This hour long program sh- owed the 1936 convention when Roosevelt was a sure winner; the 1940 convention when Wil- kie was the opposition; the 1941 declaration of war against Japan, and F.D.R.'s death in '45. All these scenes were good. Trout mentioned that F.D.R. really never wanted Henry Wallace as his running mate in 1940, but Eleanor Roose- velt urged him to take Wal- lace. Then Mr. Trout • said, "I wonder what Mrs. Johnson is saying to Lyndon theca days about a running mate". The '52 and '56 conventions showed Stevenson who was the loser and Eisenhower, the win- ner. The 1960 Kennedy con- vention and the Roosevelt con- ventions and speeches were the highlights of this program. * * * CBS has purchased the Yankee Baseball Club. -As one member of Parliament said the other day, "What team is the CBC going to buy for us?" * * * The insert in the current TV Guide seems a little ridiculous. It gives one the impression that you can "do it yourself", including the delivery of a baby. THURSDAY ONLY, Aug. 27 FREE POPCORN For The Children before 9:15 jr ;it
