The Bayfield Bulletin, 1964-09-17, Page 5Hunters are reminded that
the Fall and Winter hunting
licence is valid in the SOU-
THERN REGION from SEP-
TEMBER 20, 1964 to FEBRU-
ARY 28, 1965. Those wishing
to hunt crows and groundhogs
during the period September 1
to September 20, 1964 are ad-
vised to travel to Bruce and
Grey Counties as these two
counties are in the NORTH-
ERN REGION and the Fall
and Winter hunting licence is
valid there as of September 1,
1964.
A Tip To Shooters
The old saying "there's a
time and place for everything"
get shooting, especially the
most certainly applies to tar-
word PLACE. The established
RANGE, where there is a suit-
able backstop, warning signs,
proper paper targets, distances
accurately measured, and last
but certainly not least, land-
owners in the area are aware
that a barrage of shots means
that you are shooting atpaper
targets and that everything is
safe and under control.
Diary of a Vagabond
(Continued from Page Four)
Paul Winter didn't just walk
into a building, set up his kiln
and machine for making his
own lead glazing materials to
start his art glass business. He
worked first for an Edmonton
glass firm as a laborer. He dug
ditches for the city he had
chosen to live in and raise his
three small sons, and even spent
a year doing jobs he is not keen
on recalling for a packing house
concern. He had one objective:
to earn enough money to buy
the equipment he needed and
the expensive tools required to
start using his talent and ex-
perience and to establish his
own business.
Disaster Struck
In 1961, he made his invest-
ment. On a December day in
1963, when temperatures reg-
istered on Edmonton thermom-
eters ait 30 below zero, fire
destroyed his studio, much of
his equipment and wilted his
spirit. The fact that he had
delivered all orders that were
in work two days before the
disaster and that his loss was
insured gave him courage to
start all over again.
Today he is situated on the
third floor of a converted air-
port hangar. Sketches of stain-
ed glass 's windows drawn to
specifications vie for attention
on the walls of his office with
his creative specimens of wall
mirrors framed in gilt, antique
glass, mosaics and sheets of
ruby glass propped against the
windows. These are all tokens
of his appreciation of color and
reflected beauty. On his desk
are architect's drawings of an
unconventional church edifice.
Nine windows 28 feet high by
six feet wide will be evidence
of Paul Winter's art, imagina-
tion and ability. Cost? Any-
where from $2,000 to $4,000
each, depending on the selec-
tion of design, method and ma-
terial which will be made by
the financial committee of the
church.
In the oldest church west of
Saskatchewan, Namao United
Church situated in the little
village of Namao, Alberta, a
window, designed and created
by Paul Winter, reflects the
desire of its parishioners to
celebrate the 80th anniversary
of their congregation. It also
reflects the artistic achieve-
ment of one of Edmonton's
most enthusiastic new citizens.
Paul Winter is lucky in spite
of all his years of hard labor
and business loss. He not only
'has the exciting "go ahead"
spirit this western, thriving
province inspires, but his par-
ents in Germany keep him up
to date on design, materials
and sources for new products
in his line of endeavor.

District Forester Offers Advice
About Gun Licences, Target Shooting
Compare Range Target Shoot-
ing with the situation where a
shooter sneaks into the "back
forty" belonging to a farmer,
and smashes bottles and cans,
with a tree for a backstop, and
in some eases, no backstop at
all. Most farmers will grant
permission to sensible rifle
shooters to hunt groundhops,
and to sensible shot-gun shoot-
ers to hunt rabbits, grouse and
small game BUT nothing will
force them into putting up NO
TRESPASSING signs quicker
than having someone sneak on-
to his property and let fly with
a dozen or more shots when he
doesn't know—(1) Who they
are (2) Where they are shoot-
ing (3) What they are shoot-
ing at.
