FIRST SHOW AT DUSK
Some interesting
facts about the legal
angles on hunting and
carrying guns gener-
ally have come to hand
in the weekly report
for the Lake Huron
district of the Ont-
ario Department of
Lands and Forests.
For the benefit of
"those who think gun"
we're passing on the
dope as it comes from
the foresters at Hes-
peler. Maybe you know
all about it, but it
won't hurt to check:
"Management of the
fish and wildlife re-
sources of Ontario as
administered by the
Department of Lands
& forests takes many
varied forms. One of
the important fields
of activity concerns
the enforcement of
such acts as The lame
& Fish Act, The Ont-
ario Fishery Regulat-
ions and the Migrat-
ory Birds Convention
Act. Conservation
officers advise that
high on the list of
infractions encount-
ered in the field is
that of persons hun-
ting without a lic-
enc e.
"Sect.33 of the Game
& Fish Act,1 61-1 62
states that 'except
under the authority
of a license no per-
son shall hunt or
trap or attempt to
trap animals or birds
"Some interesting(and
not too well known)
facts pertaining to
Sect. 33 are:
"Possession of a
firearm in or near a
place where game is
usually found is pri-
ma facie proof that
the person in poss-
ession of the fire-
arm is hunting.
"By definition, fire
arms include an air
gun, pellet gun,long
bow and cross bow.
"Permission from a
farmer or landowner
to hunt on his land
does NOT give a pers-
on the right to hunt
without a licence.
"A farmer or any of
his family residing
with him upon his
land may, without a
licence, hunt or trap
fur bearing animals
and birds and animals
other than cariboo,
deer or moose during
the open seasons.
"By definition a far-
mer is a person whose
CHIEF occupation is
farming and who is
living upon and till-
ing his own land.
"Summer hunting lic-
ences are valid in
the southern region
of Ontario from Mar.1
to August 31.
"Fall and Winter
hunting licences are
valid in the southern
region of Ontario
from approximately
the third week in
September to the end
of February next.
"Persons interested
in obtaining a hunt-
ing licence may do
so by complying with
any one of the foll-
owing three methods:
(a) Produce a prev-
ious hunting licence.
(b) Sign a form 14
at the licence iss-
uers swearing that
you have held a prev-
ious hunting licence
but cannot produce it.
(c)Passing a hunter
safety course and pro.
during a competence
card signifying succ-
essful completion of
the course."

TV Views

Its not often the
two Canadian networks
carry the same prog-
ram, unless its an
important announce-
ment from the Capitol
but last Sunday we
had an opportunity to
see how CBC and CTV
handled the same ev-
ent, the Dominion
Drama Festival from
Brockville.
CBC took 30 minutes
for the show, while
CTV used an hour.The
big story is always
the award of the tro-
phy from the Canadian
Association of Broad-
casters and $ 1,000
in cash which went to
St. Francis Xavier
University in Nova
Scotia. The Hamilton
entry from Western
Ontario region was
second.
CTV used their extra
30 minutes to inter-
view the various act-
ors and directors
from across the Dom-
inion. The formal op-
ening by Prime Minis-
ter L.B. Pearson was
another highlight in
the CTV coverage,plus
brief addresses by
John Brook,pr&sident
of D.D.P. from,Simcoe
and the president of
CAB, Jean Pouliot.
There were lighting
problems at the Brock
ville theatre. This
always seems to be a
problem when awards
are televised at reg-
ional or Dominion
finals.
If you wanted to see
only the awards,then
CBC was the one to
watch.
