(Bulletin Photo) By ART ELLIOTT LET'S GET IT STRAIGHT As a prime example of how a fairly straight forward issue can become fouled up and confused by woolly thinking. we cite our esteemed contemporary,The Clinton News-Record which has chosen to instruct the people of Bayfield Village and West Stanley on how they should think and how they should conduct themselves. The editor calls for compromise where compromise represents surrender. Compromise has become sickeningly popular as the popular solution to many problems. Some people are even proud that Canada has become the greatest proponent of compromise in world affairs. The people here know what they want, and they are entitled to have it--and pay for it. After doing a first rate job of reporting the local committee's conference with Inspector Burrows (it was not a public meeting,as Bay- field officials were excluded by request) The editorial puts it's foot in it's mouth as follows: Gain An Inch ... Lose A Mile WE THINK the people of Bayfield unless the Save Our School committee and area may have gained an inch in and other officials from Bayfield show their fight to retain Bayfield Public they are more ready to compromise, School at last week's meeting with J. they could lose a mile. G. Burrows, public school inspector, but Residents of the resort village and ( Ceatiaued ea Editorial Page ) Dear Old Bayfield is looking lovlier than ever, now that the sun has brought the flower gardens into bloom. This year the lilacs have made a brave dis- play, and evidently will continue to do so as some of the later varieties come along. Almost every old home here has a lilac bush or two, making an interesting spectacle for visitors and in- habitants alike. One resident has suggested an annual Lilac Fest- ival might be held, something after the fashion of Blossom- Sunday in the Niagara Peninsula. The idea is a good one, and could perhaps be developed if more lilacs could be plant- ed in some of the pub- lic spaces where they could be more readily seen and enjoyed by visitors. Sounds like a project for a hort- icultural society, or perhaps Bayfield Bus- inessmen's Associat- ion might act on it. with the co-operation and approval of Vill- age Council. (Cont.
