Any mother who keeps a camera
handy won't find herself telling a
neighbour, "I wish I had a picture."
She can have the picture, a story-
telling picture, to share with
friends and relatives now and
in later years, to recall happy
moments.
Mother is the ideal family pho-
tographer because she spends more
time with the children than anyone
else. She's at home with the child-
ren when father is at work. She's
around when picture-taking situa-
tions just naturally happen —
when junior makes mud pies, when
daughter primps in front of a
mirror, when hopscotch is played
on the front sidewalk.
Are you and daughter heading
for the neighbourhood park this
afternoon? Take your camera and
capture, on film, a day in the life
of your child. Get a shot as you
leave the house and then record the
games and fun that follows. With
a camera, especially a movie

ground conscious." As you com-

camera, mother is all set to film
the action as it happens.
You'll want to vary the length
of scenes, the angle of your
camera, and the distance of your
shots. You might look up at Mary
when she's climbing the steps to
the slide, and then look down on
her while she breezes to the bottom
and plunks into the sandbox.
At the swings, you'll have a
chance to shoot a complete
sequence. You can begin with a
long shot, to establish a complete
view of the location, and follow
with a medium shot — in this case,
Mary sitting on the swing. Then,
continue with a close-up of Mary's
happy face. The final scene would
be another long shot, with Mary
jumping from the seat.
Movies or snapshots can provide
a colourful record of your family
life. By telling an interesting
story, and shooting with care,
you'll have pictures that your
family and friends can enjoy for
years to come.

items such as telephone wires,
trees or buildings which may b
behind your main subject.
