One of the last of Canada's mighty Lancaster
bombers is scheduled to arrive at Sky Harbour
Airport just north of Goderich Sunday, June 14
about 2 pm., destined to become a memorial to war
veterans of Huron County, and especially to the
R.C.A.F. and R.A.F. bomber crews who enlisted
from or trained in Huron County during World War
H. The idea of obtaining the giant craft recently
declared surplls by the R.C.A.F., is credited to the
late Keith Hopkinson of Sky Harbour Air Services,
who lost his life in a crash near the landing field
only a matter of weeks ago. Colorful ceremonies
have been planned for reception the big plane
which will be delivered from Dunnville by an
R.C.A.F. crew. It will become property of Goole-
rich Branch 109 Royal Canadian Legion, and be
converted into a memorial on an appropriate site
near the airport. (R.C.A.F. Photo).

Council Considers Leasing
Old Bridge Right-of-Way
At the request of Lea Ziegler of Windsor and Frank Schramm
of Detroit who purchased Bayfield Boat Club from Alf. Scotch-
mer last year, Bayfield Village council will inspect the site
of the old bridge over the Bayfield River Sunday morning, to
decide on whether or not to lease the right-of-way to the clut
to enable facilities there to be improved.
SOS Committee Meeting
About 40 members of the "Save Our School" Committee repres-
enting former school sections No. 99 4 East and West and No.3
as well as Bayfield, met Tuesday evening, June 8 in Bayfield
Village Hall.
A plan of action was drafted to get canvassers working again
on the school petitions in both the township and Bayfield. The
ceraittee decided to ask the Bayfield Council, their advisory
committee, to register a protest to the Huron Consultative CO
mmittee.
According to Mrs. E.W. Oddleifson, secretary to the SOS
committee, "strange actions on the part of both officials of
the Department of Education and East Stanley School Board mem-
bers has convinced the SOS Committee that a move to form a
new school area is a possible answer in getting a fair deal
for the majority of the residents of West Stanley and Bayfield
who wish to have their children attend school in Bayfield. The
names of - (72 parents and ratenayers have been obtained and
more namee'will be forthcoming favoring the retention and en-
larging of Bayfield school".
BULLETIN YEAR OLD
This is the sight that greeted residents of Bayfield and
district on this date last year, when The Bayfield Bulletin,
first paper to be published in the village since 1895, was
born. Although operating on only one cylinder at times, the
infant paper has survived and has a fighting chance to be-
come a permanent fixture. The paper has been well received.
AROUND
THE VILLAGE
Too bad The London
Free Press had to mis-
quote Mrs. Leroy Poth
of the SOS Committee
and make it appear
she was talking about
Huron County Council
instead of Stanley
Township Council.And
under a bright red
headline, too I The club, in repres-
entations to Council
here Monday night,
indicated it would pre
far to have the proper
ty deeded over, but it
is liklier some form
of lease may be app-
roved by Council. At
present extensive re-
pairs and improvemen-
ts are being made to
the dock and slips at
the Boat Club proper-
ty, and it is hoped
the boat population
will take an upward
surge this summer.
Council will also
take under study the
matter of licensing
trailers. The subject
has been referred to
finance committee for
study and a report.
Most municipalities
have a license fee
for trailers which
locate on a long term
basis.

Bayfield Council re-
considered a request
by Bayfield Business-
men's Association for
licencing of trans-
ient traders. The fee
has been set at $ 25
per year, and a bylaw
is being prepared for
the meeting of lane
20th. The bylaw is ex-
pected to be in effect
by July let.

Work is proceeding
on the roof of the
village hall where
sheeting is being re-
paired and new roof-
ing applied.

A composite insur-
ance policy now is in
effect for the vill-
age hall and tractor,
and covers general
liability for the
village. The cover-
age was provided by
the Village Insuran-
ce List, R. MacMill-
an, J. Tillmann and
John McConkey. Total
cost: $ 168.00 per
annum.
SPECIAL REPOR
Bayfield Village Councillors will meet with representatives
of Bayfield Boat Club Sunday morning to consider the leasing
of the right-of-way through the old bridge site over the Bay-
field Elver. The club wishes to improve and expand it's fac-
ilities, and would use the site shown here for a boat launch-
ing ramp. (Bulletin Photo)
(Ed. Note: The numbskullery which has been exemplified in
the attempt to deprive West Stanley and Bayfield of the dem-
ocratic right to decide how and where the local children will
get their education is pointed up pretty sharply by the fact
that the brief of the ratepayers and parents concerned was
paid no heed at the school board meeting. Just in case there
may be somebody out there in the wild blue yonder interested
in the FACTS of the case, we publish the brief as presented
by the SOS Committee.
We have discovered in our travels through Huron that many
people are wishing Bayfield and West Stanley well in this
fight. They are the people who regret that they didn't have
the gate or initiative to fight when they were deprived of
their rights in recent years gone by. They hope the Bayfield
fight will be a rallying point for those who are fed to the
teeth with the bureaucrats and planners who seemingly count
the voters as ignorant peasants. The West Stanley and Bay-
field SOS Committee is well staffed by ex-teachers who know
what they are talking about, and their brief, ignored by the
school board, is as follows:
"BRIEF FOR STANLEY TOWNSHIP AREA SCHOOL BOARD--THE SOS
COMMITTEE, WESTERN STANLEY.
1. As chairman of the Save Our School Committee from the
Western part of the School Area I wish to present some argu-
ments and facts in favor of the proposal we now present for-
mally; that two classrooms and a general purpose room be
added to the present modern two-room school in Bayfield to
provide public school facilities for the Village of Bayfield
and the residents of the former school sections 3, 4, East &
West and 9 within the administration of the future Huron
County School Area No. 1. I shall table a copy of my brief
and supporting argument.
