A few weeks ago we wrote about the number of commercials on TV and how they were going to lower the figure. After watch- ing the commercials and the programs there's one view one might consider. Some commer- cial stories are better than the programs. Everybody has seen the tooth paste commercial—the one that tells how half the school used a certain brand and the other half didn't. The half that used the special toothpaste had far fewer cavities. But, you never see the half that didn't.. We wonder how they felt about being given the wrong tooth- paste. The parents must have been furious paying for all those cavities. Could it be that the kids with fewer cavities had their teeth knocked out by the kids who had to go to the dentist. For Pete's Sake! And what about the soap commercials. You see a beauti- ful girl in the shower soaping herself and explaining how wonderful it is . . . and then when she's ready to rinse her- self off and step out, the pro- gram returns—usually a West- ern with some old dirty cowboy eating beans with his fingers. The deodorant commercials are exciting and amusing. There's the young fellow with a rifle shooting tin cans off a The number of drownings during summer months is a tragic reflection on Canada's regard for safety rules. Never swim alone; don't swim when tired or within two hours after eating; if you are a nonswim- mer but enjoy getting into the lake, be sure to wear a govern- ment approved safety jacket. fence with a girl wrapped ar- ound his shoulders. It certain- ly would be difficult to shoot straight with a girl in that psition. How about the writers finish- ing the commercial stories. The endings could be good too!
