She was born in Bayfield, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John McLeod. Mrs. Plater is survived by a son, Michael Crane, of the US Air Force, and a daughter, Mrs. Diane Schyrrick, of De- troit. Also surviving are brothers Donald McLeod, of Bayfield: Harold McLeod, of Hope, B.C.; sisters Mrs. Lucy Desjaniine. and Mrs. Anne Lang, both of Detroit, and Mrs. Elsie Sulli- van, Port Huron, Michigan. The funeral was July 31 at Joe Weasel's Funeral Home, Detroit. 0 TV VIEWS NBC's famous Iwo-man news team walked away with the Republican Convention rating, like Barry Goldwater did with the nomination. For the Dem- ocratic Convention this month, CBS is answering with a two- man effort, namely Robert Trout and Roger Mudd. Trout has always done a fine job of covering both conventions on CBS Radio down through the years, but television is differ- ent than radio, and CBS should know this. We doubt if Trout can make CBS number one. • • • This fall you'll be able to see top motion pictures without waiting until after the hour of 11 p.m. NBC will provide movies on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 9:00, with ABC running on Sundays art the same hour. Channel 13 has purchased a package of top movies for showing Saturdays at 8 p.m. • • • Grave concern has been ex- pressed by the Commons Pub- lic Accounts Committee over the cost of proposed expendi- tures on new CBC facilities in Toronto and Montreal. First estimate in 1963 was 83 mil- lion. Last month the figure jumped to 105 million. Since that time, the corporation in its annual report for '63-64 boosted the figure to 128 mil- lion dollars. So, what was CBC president Ouimet's answer? "The commission had apparent- ly failed to understand the na- ture of the corporation's pro- blems." We believe that the people of Canada don't care about the proposed better facilities of the CBC in Toronto and Montreal, particularly when it's the people who must pay the 128 million needed. • • 4, CBC-TV started a series this Monday (August 10) about the Royal Canadian Mounted Pol- ice. It's a repent. of a series seen in 1960. REAL ESTATE WILL TRADE or sell house in Goderich for house or farm in or around Bayt'ield. Apply to the Old Forge, phone 802, Bay- field.
