A man cannot drink intoxicating
liquor and live long on the earth—that
fact is settled, and there are very few
exceptions to the rule.
Dysrepeia•
This disease may be traced to a variety
of causes, such as constipation, liver
troubles, improper food, etc. There is one
cure—Burdock Blood Bitters—.which may
be thoroughly relied ou to effect a permau•
cure. It has cured obstinate oases of 25
years standing.

A man at Montreal a"few weeks ago
lost $12,000 by taking a glass of whis„
key. He was hurrying to catch a
train to go to a dying friend who had
promised to make him his heir and had
telegraphed him to be present at the
making of the will. On his way to
the station the man dropped into a
saloon for a drink, and missed the
train. In the meantime his. friend died
without leaving a will, and his rela,
tives, according to law, are richer by
$12,000, the extent of the dead man's
fortune. The other man, in all proba-
bility, by this time has joined a tem-
perance society.
For Influenza or "La Gripre" Wilson''s
Compound Syrup of Wild Cherry is a sure
and safe remedy. There is no better medi-
cine fo'r the cure of Influenza, Bronchitis,
• Coughs, Colds,Croup and kindred dise ases.

At a meeting of the W. C. T. U.
workers of London, Ontario, the other
evening, the following resolution was
unanimously adopted : In view of the
fact that over two years ago the Pro-
vincial Legislature passed an Act
enabling the councils of cities and
towns to pass a by-law for preventing
the sale of tobacco, cigars or cigarettes
to children under the age of fourteen
years, except on written order of the
parent, guardian or employer of the
child, and other facts that have been
presented to us tosnight, Resolved,
that in the opinion of this meeting it
is advisable that immediate steps be
taken to memorialize the council to
pass a by-law forbidding the sale of
tobacco, cigars and cigarettes to minors
under fourteen years of age, and that
the council be respectfully urged to
attach penalties sufficiently severe to
deter from infractions of the law,
Is simply epidemic Influenza; Wilson's
WildCherry will cure it safely and quickly.
Get the genuine, in white wrappers only,
and use it as directed for Influenza..
Chauncey M. Depew and the Uigar.
Mr. Depew, the well known orator
and railway president, related the fol-
lowing experience of his victory over
the cigar ;
I used to smoke twenty cigars a day,
and continued it until I became worn
out. I did't know what was the mat-
ter with me, and physicians that I ap-
plied to did not mention tobacco. I
used to go to bed at two o'clock in the
morning and wake up at five or six,
had no appetite, and was a dyspep-
tic.
I was in the habit of smoking at my
desk, and thought that I derived man
teria! assistance at my work from it,
After a time I found that I couldn't do
any work without' tobacco. I could
not prepare a brief or argument with-
out tobacco, but still I was harrassed
by feeling that something was amiss):
and the result was not up to the mark.
1 also found that I was incapable of
doing any great amount of work. My
power of concentration was greatly
weakened, and I could not think well
without a lighted cigar in my mouth.
Now it is perfectly clear that without
this power of concentration a man is
incapable of doing many things, It is
that which enables him to attend to
various and ..multifarious affairs; to
drop one absolutely and take up an-
other and give it full attention.
' One day I bought u cigar and was
puffing it with a feeling of pleasure,
which is only possible to the devotee.
I smoked only a few minutes, and
then I took it out of. my mouth and
looked at it. I said to it : 'My -friend
and bosom companion, you have always
been dearer to me than gold. To you
I have been devoted, yet you are the
cause of all my ills.• You have played
me false. The time has come that we
must part.' I gazed sad and longings
ly at the cigar, then threw it into the
street. I had been convinced that
tobacco was ruining me,
For three months thereafterl under
went the most awful agony. 1 never
expect to suffer more in this orld or
the next. I didn't go to any physician
or endeavor in any way to palliate my
sufferings. Possibly a physician might
have given me something to soften the
tortures. Neither did I break my vow,
I made up my mind that I must fora
ever abandon tobacco or I would be
ruined by it.
At the end of three months my
longing for it abated. 'I'gained twenty-
five pounds in weight. I slept well
for seven or eight hours every night.
I require that amount because of my
excessive cerebration. Whin I don't
get it I am liable to rheumatism or
sciatica.
I have never smoked from that day
to this, and while no one knows better
than I the pleasures to be derived from
tobacco, I am etill content to forget
them, knowing their effects.
