The St. Thomas Jaycees'
"Outstanding Young Person
of the Year Award" was pre-
sented to John Lane of an Elm
Street, St. Thomas, recently dur-
ing a dinner-dance at the St.
Thomas Golf and Country Club.
Born and raided in the
Seaforth area, Mr. Lane is a

barber. He has passed through
all the chairs of the local Lions
club from member to zone chair-
man carrying the name of St.
Thomas to conventions in various
cities in 'Canada and the United
States. He is also an active
Member of Holy Angels' Parish
Council, the Elgin Liberal As-
sociation, the Elgin Separate
School Board, the St. Thomas
merchants association and the
barbers association.

Thomas Times-Journal plaque
was presented to Mr. Lane as a
result of a "very close decision"
among the candidates.

all over Canada.

Provincial Parliament for
London South.
A son of Mr. and Mrs. Mervin
Lane, R.R. 4, Seaforth, Mr. Lane
was born in Tuckersmith and
attended schools there and in
Seaforth. His wife is the former
Antonette Van Den Hengel,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.Gerald
Van Den Hengel, R.R.5,Seaforth.
Particularly active in St.
Thomas, Mr. Land is the owner
and operator of the Homedale
Plaza Barber Shop, St. Thomas.
He is president of the St.Thomas
Barbers Association and the
Charter president of the St.
Thomas and District Barbers
Association. He is chairman of
the. St. Thomas Advisory Board
for the Department of Labour
concerning the Barbers Assoc-
iation and' is a Past President
of the Homedale Plaza Merchants
Association.
A member of the Lions Club
since 1964, he is zone chairman
and a candidate for district de-
puty governor.
Mr. Lane is member and
director of the Elgin Liberal
Association and served as
campaign manager for E. W.
Popovich 'Elgin County Roman
Catholic Separate School Board
1966, 1968, 1970. He was
assistant campaign manager in
the recent Provincial Election.
In 19'70 he was elected to the
Elgin County Separate School
Board where he serves on several
committees. He is the repre-
sentative of the Elgin County
Separate School Board to the
Elgin County Planning Board.
A member of the Holy Angels
Roman Catholic Church, St.
Thomas, he was vice chairman
in 1969 - '70 and chairman ,in
1970-71 of the Parish Council.
He is a member of the Super-
visory Committee of the Holy
Angels and St. Anne's Catholic
Church Credit Union.

Milton for five Huron students.
The rate is $47.80 per month.
The board approved the cost for
the remainder of the year, but
the matter will be reviewed at the
end of June.
The board has agreed not to
sell two properties owned by
them, one in Clinton and one in
Goderich. The motion read that
these properties be retained by
the board ' for possible future
needs. • It was pointed out that
previous sales by the board didn't
make the board any money as
they received less grant money
because of the sales.
A follow-up course to Man in
Society Anthropology - has been
. approved for Central Huron
Secondary School in Clinton. for
next fall.
As well, it was announced that
the Geography Club of Seaforth
District High School will be
travelling to West Germany in
March. Perjnission was granted
by the board for the trip which
will be financed by the students.

Donald W. Patterson, Q.C.
of Grande. Prairie, Alberta pas-
sed away recently in his 83rd
year. Born at Auburn, he was
educated in this district before
entering Law School. He grad-
uated from normal school in
Regina and taught school in
southern Alberta for some time.
Returning to the legal field,
he was at Lethbridge before
joining the 39th battery soon
after the outbreak of the First
World War. After the war, he
and a partner went to the Peace
River where they started their
law business.
Mr. Patterson was an active
leader in his hometown of Grand
Prairie where he resided fol-
lowing his marriage in 1923.
In 1960, the honor of Queen's
council was bestowed on him.
He was a brother of the late
T. Roy Patterson, former Huron
County engineer.
Besides his widow, the former
Rose Devlin of Nanaimo, B.C.,
he is survived by one son Don-
ald; two daughters, Mrs. Paul
(Rhoda) Miller of New York State
and Mrs. H. D. (Dorothy) Hall
of Ottawa; nine grandchildren;
and a sister, Mrs. Ferne Shack-
leton of Toronto. There are also
