Despite an announcement last
week by the New Democratic
Party of 'Ontario that it haS up-
held the suspension of Ed Bain by
the liursineRlding.. A ssociationeef
the party, Mr. Bain this week
announced be intends to seek a
seat in the upcoming provincial
elections anyway.
HO indicated that he intends
to run as an Independent NDP"
as he had previously suggested.
Mr. Bain, 54, who tinsuccess-
fullY sought the party nomination
for the Huron riding, said the
suspension was in effect until he
withdrew his candidacy. He went
on to say that he had no. intention
of withdrawing that candidacy.
The suspension handed down
comes under an article of the
party constitution known as a
disciplinary section. Previously,
when announcing his candidacy as
'an independent Mr. Bain levelled
serious charges against the ,NDP
riding association in Huron-and
termed them "politically inept".
Mr. Bain was defeated at the
nomination meeting held in June
by Goderich Reeve Paul Carroll,
27, an elementary school teacher,
who won by virtue of a 29-14 vote.
The independent candidate
says he knows of no law that for-
bids him using the NDP label
even though the Riding Asso-
ciation and the party in general
does not approve.
