Junior Equitation 1 Sack . lace Waiting. . The Huron Trail Riders held a successful Gymkhana Rodeo and Horse Show at Dungannon 16 on Sunday. Fifty-five contestants from Maitland Valley Saddle Club, Walkerton and District Saddle Club, Arthur Rope and Saddle Club and H.T.R. Saddle Club took part in the fourteen events: Anne DeKroon presented trophies and rosettes. Special features of. the day were' Peter's Nursery Race won by. William Sacks and Jean Dins- more, both from Listowel, the Loose. Saddle Race won by Roy Beuerman of Listowel, and Bare- back Wrestling won by Doug *Riley, president of H.T.R. and Charles East. Burton Bean,' Vice-president of H.T.R. took the • Hiriam Walker trophy in the Parade class. Paul Zippel of Walkerton won both the Junior Equi ation, a class of 17 juniors; and the Obstacle Barrel Race. Other trophies won were for the Three Gaited Saddle Class. Sandralee Baker of the H.T.R., for' the Sack Race Jr. - Kim Grass of the Walkerton Club, for the Reining .Class Sr, - Bob Whitfield, president of the Mait- land Valley Club, for the Flag Race Sr. - Doug Riley of H.T.R., Open Quarter Mile Race - Don Mighton of the.Walkerton Saddle Club, for the Western Pleasure Class - Ross Leonhardt of Mait- land Valley Club and for Pole Bending Sr. - Brian Sacks of the Maitland Valley Club. For the day Walkerton won 4 trophies, Maitland Valley won 6, and H.T.R. won 6. Club officials expressed ap- preciation to the several business people in the area who donated trophies for the day. This has been the most successful rodeo ever for the club, and plans are already under way for next year they said. The lucky winner of the western saddle is Mae Belle Brown of Toronto. Stanley Approves Drains • At their regUlar monthly meeting last w,eek the. Connell df the Township of Stanley accepted two petitions for municipal drain- age work. One petition was from Gordon Westlake, Richard Erb and James Cleave , on lots 12 and 13, Lake Road West and Lake Road East. The second petition came from Fred Mornmersteeg, John Paul Rau and Russel Grainger, on Lots 15 and 16. Lake Road West andLake Road East., In both instances the council approved the application and in- structed the engineer, C. P. Cor- bett, of Lucan, to prepare reports. The council approved a grant of $25 to the Zurich Agricul- tural society for their annual fall fair. First and second reading was given to the by-law applying for $500,000 for tile drainage loans, and the by-law was sent to the Ontario Mun.i.oVal Board for their approval. In other business at the meet• ing, council approved re-surfac- ing of approximately 552 feet of sidewalk in Brucefield. A supplementary by-law for an addition al $2,000 for road work, to apply to maintenance, Was approved and forwarded to the Department of Highways for approval. Accounts were approved for payment as follows: Grunwald Municipal drain, $1689.50; Stanley Big drain,, $8545.17; roads, $10,882.59; 'General accounts, $7970.03.
