John •Vintar spoke , to the
trustees on ptiblic relations,
stressing the. necessity of main-
taining public relations. He
offered some suggestions for
further improvement ' in
communication.
Mr. Vintar stated that-the
principals' association•has been
involved at the staff level in an
advisory c apa,c ity-the principals„
meet monthly and are informed of
board' decisions and motions
which,. affect their schools. The
principals are then expected to
pass this information to• their
respective staffs.
Also, the principals are in=
volved in tie formationof pOlicies
prior to their- presentation to the
board by the administration. Too,
a committee of principals makes
recommendations regarding
budget "items which. are, con-
sidered during the preparation of
the annual budget. ,It is believed
this approach allows for an
equitable disbursement of funds
according to the needs of •the
schools. ,
, This approach was initiated
because Mr. Vintar believes it
is necessary to involve the
schools more intimately in the
decision making process.
He pointed out the adMinis-
tration and consultants are called
upon to speak to numerous groups
of interested parents. These
meetings allow for a two-way
communication in which, the as-
pirationi of the local school com-
munity are recognized and the
direction in which the boa,rd is
moving is made known.
In addition schools are 'en-
couraged to invite the 'public on
numerous , occasions to attend
activities such 'as open house,
school fairs, concepts, sports
activities and class projects re-
lated to school curriculum.
Mr. Vintar suggested board
members might wish to speak to
:various groups within the school
community to keep the ratepayers
.abfeast of board developments.
He pointed out that in light of
,the desirability of maintaining
open lines of communication
some consideration• might be
given ,to the invitation to a board
meeting of representation from
organizations such as Catholic
Parent Teacher Associations,
Ontario .English - Catholic
Teachers
Association and Perth-.
Miron Deanery. This ocCasion
would enable the representatives
to indicate _to,sthe board the
aspifiliiing or the hopes of the
groups they represent.
Mr. Vintar said plans are
underway to distribute a news,
letter three times annually to
