The Citizen, 2015-12-24, Page 20PAGE 20. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2015. When The Citizen visited Huron Christian School in Clinton recently, students were more than happy to share their first memory of Christmas. “My first memory of Christmas is a Playmobil present. I have lots of Playmobil that I play with. The first set I remember is a set that is a policeman station.” Drew Boersma “I remember opening up presents. I got a toy horse once from my mom and dad. I remember it because it was special because they gave it to me.” Kelsey Boersma “I remember putting the lights on the tree first. We have normal lights that are white and we put them up together with our family. We put ornaments on the tree. We get new ones every year. The ones we got last year sing.” Jordan Boersma “The first thing I remember about Christmas is the story of Jesus. Our teachers and parents tell it to us every year. He will come back to earth soon and take us to heaven with him.” Madison Donald “The first thing I remember about Christmas is last year when I went to church with my parents and my brother to listen to the pastor talk about stuff. I can’t remember what he said though.” Tristan Guichelaar “Every Christmas I put up the Christmas tree with my mom and dad and my brothers. My sister doesn’t help yet because she hasn’t turned one year old yet. We put up little balls and decorations and we have a decoration that’s a Christmas tree so we have a Christmas tree on our Christmass tree.” Junior Brown “I remember the presents that we give to each other at home when I think of Christmas. Last Christmas, I got a lot of presents but one thing was very important. I can’t remember what was important though. I got a movie, but I don’t remember what it was. We had to throw it out because there was a mouse in the big truck where we stored it.” Mitchell Helder “I remember putting up our Christmas tree. The whole family does it. We have tractor ornaments and Santa ornaments and we have a special star on the top of the tree. It’s the last thing we put on and the best part of the tree.” Sieger Kootstra “The first thing I remember about Christmas is seeing my mom putting the stockings out. She puts them on the ground because we don’t have a fireplace and eventually we get presents in them.” Wyatt Meinen “I remember putting presents under the tree. I put presents there with mommy. I like putting them there with her.” Makenna Ramaker “I remember decorating the tree with my mom and my sisters. I remember that because it’s fun. We put angels on the tree but we don’t put a star on the top because we don’t have one. We have a white bow with gold sparkles that goes on top of the tree.” Megan Ridder “I remember Jesus being born in Bethlehem because of the songs about it happening and the stories that we are told. Those are important songs and stories because they remind us about him.” Jace Vandendool Huron Christian students jog their Christmas memory bank Good memories Christmas memories can be some of the fondest memories of all for people of all ages, including young people like the Grade 1 students at Huron Christian School. The students recently took some time out of their busy schedule to talk to The Citizen and tell them what their favourite memories are.
