Miniature ponies a hit in parade
We’re into Advent, the time of
anticipation and waiting. For the
kids that means Dec. 25 and all that
entails. For all others, it’s figuring
where we fit in the Christmas story
and it’s a new chapter every year.
Our lives change, our
circumstances get altered and we
adjust to the many details that affect
us. So as we move through these
days of anticipation, the important
thing is for each of us to see how to
bring new life and new growth to
this very special time, just like the
Jesus story of years ago.
Goodbye Gary Dauphin. We’ll
miss one very fine gentleman around
our community. To many, memories
of a good sports coach will be
recalled. For others, encounters in
business and social events will bring
a smile. Gary leaves us a good
example of living your principles –
doing, not just talking. Be sure to tell
Heather, Holly, Sarah, Becky and
Mike your stories, for memories are
what we leave behind, it’s those
stories and memories that we really
celebrate when someone dies. For
today the relationships we have with
each other need to be cared for, so
start with our friends the Dauphins.
Santa and the Mrs. made it to
Brussels on Saturday and had a good
time with the fun people in the
parade. It’s such a good way to get
into the mood of the season with the
lights, the music and the laughter
that comes with the fun. For my
favourite entry, the lights on the
miniature ponies, especially the ones
viewed from behind was the winner.
So thanks to all who took the time
and interest to make this season
bright.
When people care, it’s hard to say
thank you to the level you want it
conveyed. The Board of the 5Rs, the
Community Thrift Shop is in that
position this week. Starting with
Doug and Corry Sholdice who
rented us a new store and then Dale
and Tim Machan for their furnace
talents, Brian TenPas and crew for
pushing all the right buttons to get a
new floor installed in record time
and Mike Smith who let us use his
covered trailer for storage for days,
making the move much smoother.
We are very grateful for your interest
and support of 5Rs. Meanwhile
Patty and Jason VanderMeer moved
things, fixed some, replaced some,
removed and repainted as needed,
makes me tired thinking about their
last week.
Cabinets were seen moving south
on Saturday and by Sunday when
Jeff and Cathy Cardiff and Ron
Clarkson arrived with covered
trailers, boxes and racks were ready

At the Branch
Losses felt by Legion
By Jo-Ann McDonald
It was a busy week at the Brussels
Legion Branch. Monday evening
started the list of events with the
Lions Club hosting their bi-monthly
meeting with bring a friend night.
Fifty-three diners enjoyed the roast
beef dinner provided by the Branch.
The Branch is saddened with the
news of the passing of Comrade
Barb Dunbar last week. Our
condolences are extended to
children David and Becky and their
families. She will also be dearly
missed by Comrades Ross, Marg
and Nanci Bennett. Barb was a 41
year member of the Branch. She will
be remembered for her contagious
smile and laughter and her trait of
telling it as it is. A fun loving lady
who will be missed by all.
It is with great sadness that the
Branch mourns the loss of Comrade
Gary Dauphin on the weekend. Our
